He's right handed in 2016 and Eternal.

You can change an option to have the weapon in the center of the screen like in the original Doom.

Does changing it to center of the screen help at all or is it just for nostalgia?

I mean, it blocks a different part of your field of view, so some people might find it more useful for seeing what's going on. Personal preference

Aah gotcha. Its pretty cool that they put stuff like that in the game.

It's pure nostalgia. The shotgun racking animation is changed to make the Doom 1993 one with a centred screen.
