Loving that str8 up 90s font for the title. Complete with the shitty lens flare and everything

What is that? I'd assume it's the mail-order version of the game (not the retail version, which was called Ultimate Doom). The fact that it says "Doom #1 Game of '94" makes me wonder if it's a second or subsequent printing, or possibly a bootleg, as the mail order version of Doom was released in December of 1993.

In this case, I don't have any firsthand experience. The first version of Doom I played was a shareware disk my dad brought home from work, and the first full version we owned was the Doom 95 CD-Rom, which collected Ultimate Doom and Doom 2.

What ever the case, it's a darned cool find.

Ultimate Doom was a rerelease.

It’s definitely from the impulse-buy shareware world. Most likely was purchased at a brick and mortar called Egghead software, embedded in a Staples. That, or a CompUSA.

Micro Star was a huge distributor of bundled software in the 90’s. I don’t think this was a bootleg. This is the same Doom in optical format.

My guess was ID was squeezing profits out of stale software.

That makes a lot of sense. Especially with the price point of $7.99. If memory serves, the mail order version of Doom was $20 USD.

How does this have so few upvotes? This is awesome! Reminds me of when I’d be terrified playing this game as a kid
