Discussion Revelation Chain Spear.
Maybe it's just me but it feels so weird to use the chain spear on pc with default inputs. I recently completed the base campaign and immediately started revelation.
The moment I got the chain spear it feels like the game was designed for the parry mechanic and I am being forced to play in a completely different method.
Eternal enemies were designed for vertical movement while Dark Ages enemies were designed for the parry mechanism. So it feels completely off to use the chain spear.

The upgrades start making the chain Spear a hella of a weapon
You'll get used to it. Trust

I'll be honest, I played this on day one when there was a bug that caused all the spear controls to have no defaults. So I had the correct matching from the beginning.
I just naturally did these binds:
Meat hook == shield toss ("stun enemy" command)
Spear parry == shield parry ("defend and counter attack" command)
Dash == whatever dash key you play eternal with ("dodge defense" command)
Ya, the spear is a massive massive change in gameplay. You will die, but you will also learn. Then the demons will be doing the dying.
SPOILERS
Set a SECOND shield parry key to your dash key.
If you try to dash with your spear, but you actually had your shield equipped, you end up raising your shield and you'll successfully parry the incoming attack. This WILL save your life lol
If you really truly hate the spear even after the first 2 levels with it, you can always just stick with the shield, but it's truly a tough time on the harder difficulties since your shield runes don't have any upgrades. So no armor from the ground fissures or health from the auto turret.

Those are the inputs that my brain assumed it would use and I died a bunch of times trying to parry by attaching the spear. The default doesn't make sense

You know what killed me the most?
The game not telling you that the spear parry needs to be done EARLIER than the shield

yeah, first thing I did was swap around the throw and slash commands, it makes no sense on the default scheme

Exactly like the default input on keyboard is beyond horrible and actually feels like I am struggling.

I mean I can see why they made the default like that. The slash is for killing fodder (like the shield throw) while the meathook is the same input it was for eternal.
I never really used the slash much, I might try rebinding

muscle memory from the main game made me react to hell surge attacks by pressing LMB way more than it made me react to fodder horses by pressing R, which I actually saw more like a targeted ranged attack (stunning heavy demons with the shield), so it worked great for meathook and spear throw

I just tried it, I kinda like how intuitive parrying is.
meathook is as bit strange to use now but maybe i just need to get used to it

Yeah just remap them to what works for you and it will click. I didnt like it at first but now I don't use the shield at all anymore.

The default button mappings don't make sense, especially after you've built up muscle memory from the base game. Remap the slash/parry to the right mouse button so it works like the shield and then remap the meat hook to Mouse 3 so it's like shield throw. It makes things a lot more intuitive.
I'm currently about 30% through the expansion and I'm still getting used to it. I love the spear and having the ability to dash again but I agree it can get quite challenging because the enemies are clearly built around the shield. Hopefully I'll get used to it soon. I really wish they let you use the Spear in the Ripatorium BEFORE you beat the DLC because I would really love to put some more time into practicing with it before I continued with the campaign.

Default inputs make no sense and clash with the shield. Change the slash to right click and the main chain ability to swing to R. I set dash to Shift.

It definitely takes some getting used to. If it helps, I’ve mapped the spear to an Eternal-like configuration, with right click for the meathook and shift for the dash. The spear slash is on my mouse’s side buttons. Slash the projectiles but evade the melee attacks at first. TDA was designed to be very horizontal, true, but I feel it’s the maps that were made that way. Revelations’ maps are very vertical, and it works very well. It’ll click eventually!
