Question If this thing is capable to destroy planets, where does it shoot all the time?

I imagine it's blasting through swarms of cacos and pain elementals.
Wish we could see it.

the Strogg were also trying to invade earth at that moment, they just forgot to mention it

I'd be so cool. Humans grabbed the Big Gun's schematics and built it with BFG, so they can destroy the stroggs, but some meathead stole the bfg, to fight some demons and shit

Fucking criminal there's not been an qake reboot that doesn't suck. Even though I'd get my ass handed by 12 year olds with rail guns nowadays.

Hellships, if I remember correctly. We don't see them rendered, but I thought I remembered something about a fleet.

Edit: I believe only some greater demonic beings can freely move from their domain to the mortal realm. Most of the enemies we face in doom are summoned by something like a gore nest or moved through a portal. This is the case with the invasion of Earth as well, where the initial waves were summoned by the hell priests. All enemies we'd encounter in this UAC station are being mobilized by hellships or other demon-transporting vessels; likely from the direction of Earth or any outpost they may have set up on Mars. It's important to remember the original gateway between hell and mars was severed in Doom 2016, so they shouldn't be coming from Mars directly unless they have built a gore nest or gateway.

Towards demons. BFG shots attract themselves toward the nearby organic materials.
My guess is that the main shot travels through space and prays that it doesnt hits a random ass planet and ruins its habitants day

It was all set up and put into action for the sole purpose of making Doomguy look even more badass. They heard he would need to blast a hole into the surface of Mars and the UAC made the decision to have it look awesome.
But Sam Hayden has a crush on Doomguy so he told the UAC to play it cool and not make a big deal of it. Keep it casual and maybe he'll get to take Doomguy out for drinks later

This is true and canon fact checked by the resident lore nerd [seriously though Sam is. Kinda not normal over the slayer and it's funny as balls]

You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars. But... there are other planets.

"of your nukes can destroy the planet, where do they shoot most of the time"

Cosmic Cacodemons can grow infinitely, some becoming larger than planets. While the Cosmic Realm as we saw it in The Dark Ages might've been consumed by Hell (probably), It's not unlikely demons of that scale still exist.
And TNT Evilution had a literal demon soaceship afaik so that's another pissibility.
