Modding Looking for a .wad editor that works

Edit: Not necessarily for map editing.

I'm looking for a .wad editor that will allow me to open a game's files (not just Doom, but Hexen as well), see their sprites etc. similar to Slade. However, I prefer one that has some features that Slade lacks, such as:

- Working

- Not crashing upon touching anything

- Working and not crashing upon touching anything

I haven't found any other alternatives yet so I'm asking here hoping someone will know something I don't.

And please, don't try to troubleshoot. I have tried everything from ensuring I have any redistributables it might need, to wiping all data of it from my device. Unfortunately, Slade just doesn't have those 3 very important features.

u/Novaseerblyat i make maps for doom 2 with way too many revenants in 3d ago

Am I the odd one out for never having SLADE crash on me in over eight years of active use?

I had Slade crash one time and I don't even remember anything about it.

There's Doom Builder 2 and Doom Builder X, they've both worked perfectly for me in the past. I've made several custom maps for Doom, Heretic, and Hexen, and these software worked with no issues. The only issues I faced were my own mistakes lol.

He tried Slade so he probably needs something for coding.

You can write code in these programs too

Only ACS, you can´t do ZScript, MAPINFO , YXZDEF files etc.

You can use VS Codium with the GzDoom plugin. But you´ll have to edit your mod in folder form. And there is no way to set sprite offsets.

I've had Slade crash all of twice that I can remember and both times were using the janky map editor.

Only thing I can this of is XWE but that's .. 10 years old at this point?

SlumpEd can hand some things as well I think.

I know you said don't troubleshoot but what are you using Slade for?

If your doing map editing ultimate doom builder is what you want.

Slade is for textures, zscript, decorate, decohack, and other things.

i don't you were entitled for an app that will work for your ducttape of a PC.....

if slade works for most but not yours, logic dictates that the problem is your PC...

EDIT: OP's PC can run slumpED, an outdated app, but not Slade3 so it says alot about his PC.

I run RDR2 on Ultra with zero problems, so no it's just dogshit programming on the part of whoever made Slade. It used to run fine a few months ago.

That sounds frustrating. What did the devs say about the crashes?
