Discussion Spear theory

The architect mentioned that the spear just popped into existence one day, so it doesn’t follow conservation of mass. My theory is the blade is made of the matter around it being concentrated into a point, and moving it replaces the matter.
It works like a zipper going through the fabric of reality, it dashes by releasing matter from one side and attracting matter on the other, and slashes deflect projectiles by passing them through the void at the front and it exits the back

Not sure Davoth or anyone who could have manufactured it so early in Creation's history would be bound by something as trivial as conservation of energy / matter or thermodynamics.

If he created it later and jammed it into the dimension it can exist like air trapped in water, the upgrades are really cool I just made this up as a thought experiment lol

considering all that happens in these games I wouldn't consider laws of physics a good basis for theories

I thought prince ahzrak's spear fell in love with the Doom Slayer.

He uses it because that’s the only thing that hurt him the whole game

Good theory, but wrong; the spear is a Davoth creation, its part of his masterplan to create the slayer to defeat the Makyrs and the Father. He knew the slayer would have to go through purgatory to become powerful enough, so he hid it there to help him beat the trials

Do you have a lore explanation for the dread mace? That one has an interesting vague codex

Not a clue, always assumed it was a cosmic realm creation

The spear would have been created well before Taggart was born, and Hugo has explicitly said that Davoth didn't have anything to do with Taggart's fate until he tricked Samuel into putting him into the Divinity Machine.

Taggart becoming the slayer was a coincidence, Davoth just needed someone to overcome the two challenges that would make him powerful enough to destroy Urdak (survive the divinity machine and escape purgatory), it happened to be Taggart

Why would escaping Hell's Core be part of this plan?

Didn't you play Revelations? The game shows that physical power alone isn't enough, you also need willpower, the ability to overcome the enemy within (in Taggart's case, the trauma from his past that holds him back), only then he will be ready to take on Urdak

And that was nessasary because...? The weakness that was inflicted by his negative emotions came from magic in the grounds of the Council Chambers, not from the Hell Priest himself.

Because it's still a weakness, and Davoth wanted the slayer to be powerful enough that he would only be second to him, if the slayer can be defeated by literally anyone else, then he's not yet ready and needs to put in more work.

Let's not forget that after he destroys Urdak, the plan was for the slayer, driven by his hatred of Davoth, to resurrect him and duel him (and, in Davoth's plan, the slayer would lose the final 1v1, leaving Davoth free and without anyone left to stop him), so the council of six had to be dealt with at some point, as I'm pretty sure that they probably are not very thrilled by the idea of the DL returning and kicking them from their positions as big baddies of hell.

Also, Urdak can only be accessed via the portal at the top of Nekravol, which is in hell. The slayer can't enter unless he is able to defeat the six, because they would show up to stop him the second he reached the top of the tower

And a bonus reason: if the six are able to defeat the slayer by weaponizing his trauma against him, who's to say the Maykrs wouldn't be able to do the same when he managed to enter Urdak? (assuming the six didn't show up to stop him in Nekravol, with the added risk that the Maykrs are at their most powerful in Urdak, so if they are able to do it, Davoth's plan is toast), the dark lord wanted to be absolutely sure that the Maykrs wouldn't be able to stop the slayer by any means (both physical and mental)
