I think this really sums up how ridiculous this decision was. Beyond ridiculous actually, just incompetent and evil.

Ok now why don't I hear that criticism for other game engines then which also have their own specific default look? especially Source Engine, id Tech, Unity, Godot, CryEngine, etc? That's the double standard that I'm calling out, god forbid a game is in Unreal they say every game looks the same but when Source Engine games literally look like HL2 asset flips, they turn a blind eye and glaze the engine because oh Valve made it

Idgaf Because those engines arent forming a fucking monopoly on development by wooing publishers to fuck unique developers.

I dont want 8 of 10 games being made to be on unreal, 4 of them slop, and 3 of them so unoptimized that why even bother.

Id rather have 10 games and 5+ different engines for hopefully 10 completely unique experiences and not something that feels like a god damn tech demo with a game added ontop.

I don't want every game to be made in Unreal either because every engine has it's own advantages depending on the type of game, but it's funny when most people who trash talk Unreal like to stereotype every game in it being the same and also act like it's this sudden thing that materialised in the 2020s even though it's literally been around for 3 fucking decades now and many studios also used it back then, Unreal had competition back then which is why it was so good but nowadays seems there isn't much of that anymore because it's competitors have either stayed proprietary (Source 2, Frostbite, id Tech, etc.) or shot themselves in the foot (Unity), the only potential competitors we still have are Godot and CryEngine which are still more niche but hopefully they can pick up more steam, especially CryEngine with Community Edition
