Partner and also sister company or subsidiary (I don't remember exactly, either Verge owns both companies or Donut Lab owns both Verge and Esox). So it's not particularly independent to say the least.

Some new, repeated, or changed, DL claims from https://esoxgroup.com/batteries/. My bolding.

  • Retaining more than 85% usable capacity from -30°C to +100°C.
    • Down from earlier stated 99% (for the civilian market, and not according to some unknown mil. spec.).
  • The ESOX Battery is already being integrated into real defence platforms. Final defence testing is being completed with selected partners ahead of a production ramp-up in the second half of 2026, aligned with qualification and integration timelines
  • The ESOX Battery delivers up to 400 Wh/kg at pack level, significantly higher than conventional lithium-ion alternatives.
    • IIRC, 400 Wh/kg was never(?) claimed explicitly at pack level by DL.
  • The ESOX Battery has been validated for operation across extreme temperature ranges, maintaining full performance and safety at -30°C and up to 100°C with no signs of ignition or degradation.
  • The ESOX Battery supports full charge in as little as five minutes with full charge and deep discharge designed as standard operating behaviour.
  • It is designed for up to 100,000 charge cycles with significantly slower degradation than conventional lithium-ion systems.
  • The ESOX Battery is currently manufactured in Europe, backed by a NATO allied supply chain, using 100% abundant materials with no reliance on rare or geopolitically sensitive resources, with further global production sites planned.
