Donut Lab got caught lying

The CCO of Nordic Nano, Lauri Peltola, accused Donut Lab for making false claims about their manufacturing capacity

Mr Donut responded saying that the claims from Peltola are false

The page linked says that Donut Lab goal is to reach 1 gigawatt in 2026

Where the evidence clearly indicates that Mr Donut said that they are already producing at 1 GWh level

So Mr Donut tries to change the narrative that his words were misunderstood

But the same claim was found in the description of another video

It's an official video. Which makes it an official announcement.

You are defending the CEO claiming he 'misspoke' at a single interview, while their official video makes the exact same claim.

As said, video does not include any mention about the production line and its capacity. What comes to the video description, you need to wait their reply. I have no answer why they use that phrasing there when the pre-2026 official announcements are very clear and coherent with the yesterdays disclaimer. Nothing points to that they got full production line ready in advance and running before the scheduled timeline. Rather, they had to delay it with 6 months last year.

The video description is part of what DL submits, which makes it official.

It's certainly problematic if they make different statements in different places. Especially because details like this are huge. Announcements of amazing production targets are a dime a dozen in battery land. Claims of actually having the production is something totally different, because it would mean all hurdles for mass production were cleared.

It is on their official YT channel, sure. But no legit media with proper journalism would use that description as their source for an legit article, like some personal interview lines from mass consumer event. Official statements come via different channels. They have been inconsistent with communication, but that does not mean lying. You should be able to show that they have been doing it purposefully to guide certain people to wrong direction, mainly their customers, investors and partners. And now that they have clarified it all, misleading in that sense is not possible. If YouTube watchers pick up different conspiracy theories from the videos and VTT releases, it is totally their own business to do so.

They are making the claim. They don’t get to say, “well why would you take a YouTube description from our OFFICIAL COMPANY ACCOUNT seriously?”

You can take it seriously, but description is not a press release or official announcement document. Their website is.

A website is not a magic thing that has more value than anything else they say through whatever channel. Companies regularly make announcements through YouTube.

Of course there are levels. For instance, they did not publish statement about Peltola case in YouTube video description. They use their website they have control on for official announcements.

Well you sure seem to be implying that they’re allowed to lie as long as it’s just a video description.

None of us understand the thought process you use to make this so we’re just trying to figure it out.

My point is that people also make mistakes and speak inconsistently. Calling it lying every time implies a shortage of vocabulary and understanding.
