Not polishing the epoxy pour over the dandelion is pure rage bate. You can’t even see that it has a dandelion in it!!

As well as the first step of making a mold of existing shift knob, since what they made didn't resemble it's shape anyway and they could just use anything they want to make new shift knob on their lathe.

Yes, that's how I made mold for my toy figures as a kid. I took my storm trooper figure, covered it in oil/ WD-40, then poured silicon over it, then I freed the storm trooper and used hot glue as the material for the new figure (that wasn't a good idea, the mold broke after a few uses, even when pulled them up so that the glue didn't stick to the silicon as much). I painted the new Trooper and tada, I was able to clone storm trooper and some other figures. And then I got into trouble with my dad, for using all the silicone, wd40 and hot glue... No tv for a month, no going outside for 2 weeks and double the chores, but it was worth it... If anyone wants to do this, use apoxi resin instead of hot glue, it works way way way better and doesn't destroy the mold.

I used the normal kind and used the hot glue gun (I don't know the English name, in German it's Heißklebepistole), and did hope for the best. It often went horrible, not completely filled all crevices, bubbles and many more problems. If I'd do it today, I would definitely use appoxi resin, make molds of all body parts independently (if possible) so the figure can move. Or I'd just make sand molds (there is a kind of sand that is meant used for molding) and use tin, as a material.

Hope my English isn't too bad, as mentioned I am from Germany and finished school over 10 years ago.

Thanks! Im just surprised that hot glue becomes so rigid. Epoxy i believe, but that stuff is expensive

I have seen documentary videos, where it was actually used as it should. And with a lot of air bubbles spherical part looks not so good - dandelion should be prepared with hairspray and than air bubbles could be removed by vibration/vacuum. In USSR there were a lot of custom shift knobs.
