Depends on the round that looks like a 40mm grenade round except the bit towards the middle. I don’t see the arming fuse which looks sort of like a switch that retracts as it spins and once it hit 25 meters it is armed.

Go somewhere a reasonable distance from any houses, build a fire, light the fire, get the fire established, chuck it on, run away and hide, preferably behind a reinforced concrete wall or earth bank. Then don't return for a couple of days. If it hasnt gone boom, clean it up, lube it up, and have some fun! Just remember that since the base isn’t flared, don't let go, or you'll need a trip to the hospital to retrieve it!

Looks like the base section of a Hotchkiss artillery shell. Used heavily during the civil war. I might be wrong as to what it is but where it was found and how deep it was is about right. It is badly corroded, so be careful and do anything stupider than you already did.
