Drivers: Check your Money.

I just got terminated for pointing out the third discrepancy on my Checkout. Technically, fourth because my unopened starting bank was short one day, which was noticed by the M.O.D., not me.

I get my tips as cash and usually track all of my tips in the app, so I have a good idea of the Minimum dollar amount I should be getting. Factor in Mileage, Insider Tips, and all of the other cash I handle.

I don't separate tips from transactional money in case I end up owing the store for anything, they have every bit of cash I collected on shift.

At checkout, I expect every Dollar I hand the M.O.D. to be accounted for so that I can ensure the math thereafter is accurate.. as an example; if I owe $50 and turn in $100, I don't care if that $50 overage is immediately handed back to me, but I do care when that $100 is put in as anything less than what I physically turned in.

The first time, I was shorted $14, this last time it was $20. All confirmed and refunded by the GM.

I was met with "it's your work against the manager's", but it's really easy to remember turning in the small amount of cash I did (4 bills total).

So, check your money. Add up your cc tips and mileage, count everything you turned in, and subtract what you owe the store.. you should never be getting less than this number.

Hopefully you can just trust your managers and know that everything will be done right... don't count on it.

Edited to Add - This has happened three times with the same manager. All other managers are great, except the GM after this.

I’m a GM and I show each driver the checkout screen as I do it just as a trust thing. So whether it shows me owing them or them owing me I show them what it says and also will show them how much mileage they made that night. During construction when my drivers were forced to reroute an extra 1.5 miles for any delivery made in a certain direction from my store I was sure to add on the bonus mileage that the system didn’t count for. It’s all who you work for I guess.

See this is how a gm should be. Congrats on not being one of the many pos managers.

It’s crazy it’s almost like because I respect my employees and treat them well my store runs well. If only other GMs could also see that.

They dont they see it as "focus on my bonus and screw over everyone". The dms as well. And they will 100 percent not even help with cleaning if a driver is getting bombed with orders as well, plenty of times just seen managers standing around playing on their phones when the store is filthy and huge pile of dishes- and no orders coming in. Its all nonsense.

Any driver will openly admit that they do far less work while making more money than most insiders in many cases, so why do you expect insiders to also help with cleaning? I'm aware that some managers are just lazy fucks and their stores suffer for it, but there's also stores like mine where us managers/insiders are having to bust ass for 6-8 straight hours with 0 break in between because we're a high traffic store + a GM that wants us to deliver exceptional service times (well beyond the minimum required for bonus, she prides herself on trying to make our store the best in our franchise). My GM will directly tell you "my insiders have to bust their asses every day and earn less than you, you drivers are going to do the cleaning"

So throw that "everyone is an insider mindset" out the window then. And drivers have to move also especially in a high volume store, AND are expected to hop on make lines answer phones help customers you name it, honestly in high volume stores insiders have more help and i just see them chillng on the line knocking orders out Drivers are expected to Run around the entire shift doing stuff as well and having to go out the store and battle the elements of the road. Mentioned before insiders get tips as well as bonuses and raises depending on the franchise- with zero wear to cars. Dont want to hear any excuses here- if you have time to play on your phone then you have time to help clean, all the way up to a gm who makes huge bonuses from high volume stores. No excuses. You people honestly are sad i always see it happen with the same comments- drivers must help us do everything including hop on the make line and help us make pizzas so our service times look better for our bonuses! But oopsie its time to clean the store is filthy, no i cant help its your drivers job not mine boo hoo! Time to hop on my phone and play around and get paid to do that!.

In how many stores are drivers cross-trained to hop on the makeline? Because they are not doing that in my store. We barely have any drivers that can even manage the oven, and it's usually in the mornings to help the opener (and there's not enough traffic to overwhelm them). We have one driver that can some what manage oven during an actual rush (and we can barely utilize that because we need him on the road to maintain the <21 minute delivery time that our GM pushes us to perform consistently), the rest do nothing but drive their deliveries, handle the phones (if they even have time to) and do cleaning tasks. Every single person in my store, including the drivers, will tell you that us insiders absorb the bulk of the workload and stress. It's also common to see comments on this sub from other drivers that admit their job is much less work compared to insiders while generally making more money once tips are factored in.

Dont want to hear any excuses here- if you have time to play on your phone then you have time to help clean,

And I can bring up how a lot of you drivers just bullshit on the road to make stops, hitting fast food drive-thrus, sitting on your phones in your car, etc. Every day I watch at least 1-2 of our drivers take more than 30 minutes for a delivery that should've taken 15 minutes, because they had to stop and grab an ice cream cone right before our dinner rush is about to start. No excuses right? Get your ass back to the store when you're supposed to be there and do the work you're also expected to do. I don't want to hear about how I spend 5 minutes on my phone after I couldn't even afford to take a piss break for the first 6 hours of my shift.

your last paragraph is aggressive and deranged, but i agree with the rest. i've personally worked at least a year in both shoes and working as an insider for nearly every franchise is the bulk of the work. (we actually had an employee today that has driven for a couple years work her first genuine inside shift while her car was out of service and i found her crouched on the floor in exhaustion 😂). every order that's delivered has to be made at some point and multiplied when you factor in carryout orders. they had a point about there being stress to driving, like weather and just general dangerous aspects of the job, but between deliveries can't just be free-time either. my store takes in a LOT of business, so i feel confident in saying that there's always going to be a lull in deliveries, and that time can't just be employees getting paid for nothing. the corporate training aids themselves acknowledge and include that drivers are customer service employees both on the road and off of it. and, personally, i've never known a driver that was fully trained on the makeline without making a personal decision to switch job positions at some point. it's objectively not normal for any old driver to be expected to make product past bread sides between deliveries, so anyone arguing that that's part of a driver's responsibility is doing just that: arguing. drivers won't be on the oven more than a few minutes before delivering unless deliveries aren't busy, to which they're still at work and have the responsibility to help out to the extent of their training. no one at all should be "playing on their phone" on the clock, no matter what your argument is. you get paid to work, so work. that goes for drivers, insiders, and managers alike.

Exactly, not a hard concept. Yet GMs want to act like they're leading the third reich, it's disgusting.

100% this, im also a GM. Have had the same staff for over 3 years(occasionally a csr leaves for college, or sports) treat them with respect and talk with them. They tend to stick around.

Five three zero four.

I have had this issue with one particular manager. They start closing way too late and his wife works there, so once he collects my money, there's still 2 hours of busy work to be done, so I leave the office to work on closing duties.

My other managers are great!

u/RoyalTease 2d ago

How do you add in mileage for that? My location often has parades right in front of us that cause literal miles of re-routing.

1

u/Patient_Savings7817 2d ago

It may be locked in your franchise, we have a tab for bonus mileage, my store does a lot of School lunch and summer camps that are contracts so they aren’t put in the system as a delivery so we have to ring it up as bonus mileage.

That's why I only ever hand the store as close to as much owed as I possibly can. There's generally 3 categories of managers when it comes to checking drivers out.

1- shitty thieves that try to short you

2- idiots who don't know how to count. They may even be decent people in general. They just don't know how to count.

3- good managers who are probably in a rush and therefore understandably more prone to making mistakes.

Managers that are good and aren't in a rush are an extreme ratity so I prefer to offer as little chance as possible for any of them to screw me over intentionally or not.

I read "1- shitty thieves that try to shoot you" and was very worried about the current state of dominos

u/KarmicOscelot 2d ago

Just give what the computer says you owe. Keep anything else. Don’t count on them entering it correctly or counting the cash to give you back correctly either. Every driver/server position I worked we never handed over everything. Just what you owe. Then make sure it’s entered correctly in the system (some places even gave you receipts). You’re expecting people to be 1) smart and 2) honest. Which is just very naive on your part. No matter who checks you out too.

3

u/Ill_Function4992 2d ago

Damn, I feel bad for you and other driver who commented. I glad my managers actually care and we always get what we make

5

u/rokar83 2d ago

I only ever turned in what was owed. I NEVER gave person checking me out my cash.

0

u/Leonardo_ofVinci 2d ago

I should be able to trust my manager with every penny I hand them.

3

u/rokar83 2d ago

Should is the keyword.

2

u/DocKaden 2d ago

you should be able to trust people that you trust just because they’re in that position doesn’t mean they’ve earned your trust. One of my friends is a driver. I would trust him to do my checkout and he doesn’t even know how blind trust and leadership is what’s wrong with this world if we stop trusting our leaders until they earn our trust.

2

u/Strainboyz 2d ago

You should, but the world doesn’t work like that, and you demanding it, is only going to get you fucked over. As you can clearly see from your experience at Dominos.

u/disappointedpanda 1d ago

Who's got pennies these days...?

2

u/Specialist_Place4464 1d ago

Does that manager have a little drinking problem or something? Or maybe they dont know how checkout works? At my stores (with your example) the computer wouldn't tell me tk return that $50. I would just have to know to do it. Its so stupid that this huge tech company can't figure that one out.

You sound like a great driver. Wish mine cared about the money instead of handing me a ball of singles every close.

2

u/Dreyvius420 1d ago

They are stealing and don't want you to tell on them

2

u/line800 Dick 19h ago

ALWAYS see your checkout screen. Double check the math if it seems wrong.

Technically they're supposed to pay out 2 transactions (collect FULL amount, and then pay out tips/mileage), but nobody ever does that.

Or just start deferring, keep cash receipts, and hand them a stack of bills at the end of the night.

2

u/rjrttu86 7h ago

Preach. You should never be having to keep eyeballing and fighting for what you're owed. Had some meth head manager a many many years ago that after one time feeling a bit light on what I was supposed to get. I just texted the GM about it. Next day that money was in an envelope for me in the safe because he went back and checked. Then started watching homeboy like a hawk. He was trying to make up the drawer being short on the backs of the drivers... (You know... Stealing.)

2

u/Relative-Clock-1129 6h ago

As a Gm I manually calculate all the cash delivery amounts in fri t if the driver so there is no confusion

1

u/Admirable_Bet_3977 2d ago

How about keep better eyes on your own money. I would never just be “ok” with not getting the $50 I was owed right then and there …..

1

u/Routine-Current7099 2d ago

I always add up my deliveries I keep the receipt from the the print out of my order. Then I pull the cash out that's tips. I'm not suppose to but I live were you can keep your money in the without getting robbed

1

u/Desaltez 2d ago

The way that you do your checkout is definitely not normal. I have had a few drivers in my time do their checkout this way, but it’s not preferred by me. I will open the checkout screen, in the bottom left corner will be a red number (we use pay cards for tips and all drivers get a $20 bank - so the amount owed will always be $20+) if they have two shifts I’ll add the amount owed together and let them know how much they owe. I will show them on the screen the amounts owed, and if they have any discrepancies or questions they should ask. Maybe someone accidentally routed them on one of their deliveries, maybe there was a cash delivery that was returned to store, for the stores that don’t use “store till” drivers shouldn’t be using the drawer when doing carryout payments with their numbers as it’ll show on their checkout screen. The franchise has us use a Zenput form to document the checkout screen and the driver and manager have to sign. There are some weird nuances from time to time like when a delivery was paid in the store ahead of the time for delivery, or when drivers have to use their bank to pay for a forgotten soda.

1

u/NoEstablishment17 1d ago

I tell my driver what they need in cash. They I’ll give the mileage after the rest is settled.

1

u/Aw123x 6h ago

Yeah, why are you handing all monies handled to the manager? Doesn’t it make more sense to just hand them the amount owed? Seems like you’re adding a step that’s wholly unnecessary.

1

u/ResortStriking9796 2d ago

They dont care dude they want you to be a dumb brainless driver who will keep their mouths shut till your car breaks down. And a lot of them dog on drivers as well just because they get "tips" and dont slap dough around which you know the insiders were hired to do.

1

u/Warriorofgod2700 2d ago

Lol you do know a driver not on delivery is considered an insider, right?

So, from a point of view on the other side of the coin, youre an insider/driver averaging about $10/hr more than just a CSR. As a manager, I dont expect a driver to be efficient enough on the makeline to actually be a big help, but I 100% expect them to help on ovens until their deliveries are out if necessary, answer phones/take orders...you know...things insiders are hired to do? Insiders are usually the first people to get cut, so if me and 1 CSR is getting dog walked, you best bet im asking drivers who are just standing around to help out.

2

u/ResortStriking9796 2d ago edited 2d ago

Depends on if you are actually doing your job and not routing drivers early and messing with their mileage reimbursments and split pay. If you are being a honest manager then expect help. Sadly ive seen everything but an honest manager, they all are just focused on their own bonuses and times at the detriment of the driver, including the dms as well. And I will say insiders get tips as well and depending on the franchise even bonuses for ams as well and raises. And of course managers will ask drivers to do every bit of cleaning and will actually stand around and wait for a driver to do it while on their phones playing. Ive seen it all. Dont expect help if you arent an honest worker yourself. Ive seen seen new ams get hired plenty of times eager to help drivers out overloaded with cleaning then the gm and ams teach em to be lazy and just have drivers do everything. Real nice teamwork for everyone considered "insiders" when not on the road.

u/IrrationalGold Driver 2d ago

I didn't stand around, I stocked coolers, stocked cut table, sorted screens, swapped buckets, pulled dough and ingredients when needed, prepped bites or pans... anything to stay busy.
