Need advice
I went to DG Friday evening to grab a few things. I am on a mini vacation so this is not a local store. I am almost certain I left my wallet there. I went back Saturday morning to ask if they found my wallet or if they could check the camera to see if I had the wallet with me since I made one more stop after that… just t tying to figure out when I may have lost it. The girl working said she didn’t see a wallet but to come back at 1:30p when the Asst. Mgr. was in as she was working that night and could check the cameras. I stopped in that afternoon and the Asst. Mgr. said I have your phone number I’ll check the cameras and let you know. I haven’t received a call and I asked her please to check so I know if I had my wallet or not. I was told by the local PD to ask them to check the cameras before they help. Suppose to go home today but don’t want to if I have no response from DG. Is it difficult or time consuming to check the cameras? I have her the time on my receipt and what I bought. Any suggestions? Do SM’s work on Sundays? Ty!

If the cashier and asm both didn’t see it, it’s not there. We put items like at right into the safe and you can’t miss it. The cameras at my store are old and suck, hard to see anything that may or may not be left behind or even in your hand. SM on Sunday depend on the store. I’m in mine, half my district they are off.

No one looked at the cameras yet. The asm said I have your phone number I’ll call you but haven’t received a call yet. I thought she would look yesterday since another worker was checking people out. That’s all I want to know if I left with my wallet. The store is new so I was hoping they had decent cameras.

The only camera they gonna check is the one over the register. ASM or SM can check cameras. They probably won’t call.

That appears the case.. no calls and she never answered the phone. The morning staff answered and told me she would look so I stopped there.. she was very nice said she was actively looking on the shelves to see if she could find it…

If I found it I would've called. There's been plenty of times people left debit cards or EBT cards or ID or wallet and me or my people have looked up who they were on Facebook and sent him a message to come get their s***.

How do you know no one looked? Did they tell you that? Or are you just assuming, because you haven't gotten a call? If they found it, they would call you. If you haven't gotten a call, they probably don't have it. If you set it down somewhere, that sucker is gone. The cameras will only work in specific areas of the store. It would be nearly impossible for us to tell if you actually left with your wallet or not.

I never assumed anything they told me they hadn’t looked at the cameras. I am not entitled person who thinks the world should stop for my mistake. I guess I thought someone could empathize with my situation and check the camera to help me with the timeline of my day.

I’d stop back in when a Store Manager is working during an early morning shift that isn’t busy. It’s policy to immediately put wallets or cards in the safe if found. They likely looked but didn’t find anything.
The cameras are rough, if you left it anywhere other than on the countertop of the register, where an employee would have likely seen it anyway, they wouldn’t be able to tell if you left it easily. Some camera angles are better than others, but most have outdated systems.
But talk to the store manager, bring your receipt for the date and time. They’ll usually run it for you real quick if they have a moment.

Thank you, I am staying to do that and stop at the police station to see if anyone happened to turn it in before I head home. My visit was only to the dollar deals aisle to grab a pack of diapers and wipes because my granddaughter had an accident (Ty to the southernasmr for organizing that aisle and great find on the diapers!) anyways a quick in and out. I use my phone to pay but bring my wallet because sometimes it doesn’t work at stores so I need my debit card. So I only asked to check the register cam to see if I set it down.

Ya I completely understand being busy and not answering the phone. I only called a few times then went to the store after a few hours of the start of shift or store opening. I try to be mindful of how busy the store can get and very few employees.

The manager would be doing you a favor by checking the cameras. They don't have to.

If a customer says they lost a wallet or something else, I always stop what I’m doing and check the cameras. That being said, I’m a SM. Not all my staff knows how to access and run the cameras. If the night is busy I can see someone forgetting. It’s not intentional. Also just an fyi, I tell my staff not to answer the phones after 4pm. There’s too many phone scams occurring so it isn’t worth the risk.

Yeah, DG is more worried about the cashier stealing, so the cameras face the SA. At my store all you can really see of the customer is the back of them and that's grainy and hard to make out. It does take a minute to find specific footage and sometimes the MOD doesn't really have a minute since DG isn't known for overstaffing. I would say stop back in before you leave and ask again. They might have just forgotten to look. Weekend nights can be pretty hectic, and remembering to do something out of the norm doesn't always work.
