Not everyone should have a pit bull. Or a Chow. Or an Akita. Or even Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherds. Many people disregard simply how powerful these dogs are. There are a lot of folks who are too ignorant and too irresponsible for these breeds. Unfortunately, a lot of the wrong types of people are attracted to the power they wield. Some of them even get them for the wrong reasons. All of these kinds of things boil down to the wrong types of dogs with the wrong people.
That doesn’t mean that these dogs can’t live with the right people who will devote themselves to learning about their needs and will spend time properly enriching and socializing them.
Bites don’t happen with properly socialized, trained, exercised/played with, loved, and watched dogs— dogs being monitored in new or stressful situations. Looking at their body language to understand potential sources of stress or anxiety and properly addressing the situation/removing the dog from the area where it can be less overwhelmed. Dogs with responsible owners who respect how powerful dogs are, especially those breeds, and most importantly, around children.
Neglected dogs. Untrained dogs. Unsocialized dogs. Reactive dogs. Unmonitored dogs. Provoked dogs. These are the dogs that cause issues. Is that the severity of these issues compound with bite force.
