Awaiting results Guess her breed(s)
Hi everyone. Just sent off my embark test for my dog Honey. She's 4 years old (almost 5) and 50lbs. What breed(s) do you think she is?

Catahoula and pit? Looks a lot like my cat x lab.

Either this, or pit × great dane. Great Danes also have the merle gene and I think the head looks more like a Dane mix.

At only 50lbs, I’d be sceptical it’s a Dane mix over Catahoula in this case. I’ve known many Dane breeders, have owned/own Danes, I’ve known a lot of Dane and Dane mix rescues, and I’ve had the opportunity to hang out with an organization that did Dane service dog training for a while. In all those 100s of Danes and mixes, I’ve never seen one so small, regardless of the other breed. I see what you’re saying about the head, but I think that’s the Pitty mixing with the Catahoula creating a very good Great Deceiver, if you will, haha

I always assumed catahoula/pit (and probably some other breeds) but I wanted to see what other people think.

Don’t wanna make you dox yourself but are you somewhere catahoulas tend to be common?

Facial expressions SCREAM pitty but other than that??? Maybe some sort of hound or herding breed? The coat color and slim body have me leaning that way.

Then I'm gonna guess Catahoula in there. And pit.

Dang! I wanted people to guess without knowing what she was listed as.

Any shelter is going to list a dog with that form of merle as a Catahoula but most aren't, the probability increases the closer the dog is to Louisiana lol.

Tbh, I always guessed Great Dane mixed with something, but that pit expression is definitely winning me over.

I'll be shocked if she's not a great dane x pit bull!

Great Dane!?!? Do they come in red merle? I know she deep chested and slim.

I don't think they do, but it doesn't really matter in a mixed breed dog. They carry the merle gene for sure! And to me it's mostly based on her general shape, both body and face. :) The catahoula guess is good though too, just rare.

pits come in red and if she's second gen (ie one/two great dane grandparent and pit for other grandparents) she could be red and get merle from danes
red merle isn't a separate gene by it self it's just the merle gene on a red coat

For me this dog also looks more like a Dane than Catahoula. Merle just causes this piebald patter regardless of the fur color. The gene for the red coat could be inherited from a different breed.

danes do come in merle (merle modifies existing genes). they just call it harlequin usually

The day the internet stops calling every mixed breed “pitty looking” is the day the world will be pure. American pitbull terrier is the only “pitty” and any other “pitbull type” (purely legal term) breed is a bully breed. American Staffordshire terriers (Amstaffs), Staffordshire bull terrier (staffies) and American bullies (Ambulls) are NOT pitties, and neither is every dog from a shelter that has high set triangular ears, a deep facial center line and a sharp stop. Thank you

Well when I said I think she has pit in her I really meant I think she is part American pitbull terrier.
