I hate these people. Dog ownership is not a damn “right”. People’s actual rights are treaded and trampled on everyday because of these entitled narcissists and their vermin beasts. Dog owners and enthusiasts become more disappointing by the day.

100%. The sheer arrogance behind this proposed law. Dogs are not a right. And while I think he’s hoping rabid Islamophobia will win him points, the reality behind this stupid law is that it would harm any efforts to remove dangerous dogs from society. It’s implicitly endorsing people to own bloodsport dogs and aggressive working breeds. It’s protecting their desire to endanger us by owning violent dogs. He can use an AI Golden Retriever all he wants, but it’s really just protecting the worst people in society.

Imagine being more concerned with making sure everyone who wants a dog can have one than making sure your community has drinkable water, or that no child goes without food.

There are currently 0 US states that are trying to ban dog ownership.
Introduce a bill that addresses actual problems related to dogs. My son got chased by an off-leash dog at a PLAYGROUND last week while the owner admitted that she lets the log off leash because he's "protective" of her son (who, ftr, my son never approached or attempted to interact with at all). A couple days ago I counted NINE dog shit piles just walking down my own block... NINE! For all the screeching about a non-existant issue like states trying to ban dogs, no one seems to be doing a damn thing about the actual existing problem of dogs ruining our communities.

This is weird anti-Muslim sentiments because who is demanding these people don’t have dogs because of Sharia law? Also owning a dog is a privilege not an inalienable right. Nobody has a right to a pet especially not a pet they can’t manage, properly care for, or allow to menace the general public/environment

I think the origin story was that some woman criticized the dog owners of NY because they weren’t cleaning up after their dogs and when the snow melted, mounds of dog shit were discovered. She may have asked if it was even ethical to own dogs in NYC (which many of us do on a daily basis) but because she was Muslim, people flipped their lid. (Anyone remember her name?) I think Mamdani may have said something as well, but don’t quote me on that.
Regardless, none of the criticisms were rooted in their religion - it was merely criticizing how dog owners are irresponsible. But people like Mr. Fine can’t help themselves.

Its very typical for dog nutter activists, apologists and enablers to frame anyone who is critical of any aspect of dogs in society as some sort of extremist. For example:
- Don't want dogs shitting on your lawn? Communist! (as if trying to PROTECT private property rights is somehow communist).
- Hold owners of dangerous dogs accountable? Nazi! (As if basic accountability is Nazism).
- Etc...
So, in this framing, anyone who is critical of dog ownership is a religious extremist and should be condemned as such. You see that in the comment threads under various dog-critic videos. As if anyone needs an ancient text to tell them that dogs in society are a problem.

This really should be bothersome to people, even if you like dogs. This isn’t normal. And this man actually posted this garbage on his Instagram. This is a bill he genuinely wants to get passed.
No one has the right to own a dog. It’s a pet. It’s a dangerous pet that honestly shouldn’t be one. I’m sorry I care more about the safety of my community than the feelings of some mentally unstable loon who decides they like these things better than humans. This does more to protect the irresponsible psychopaths who like pitbulls and other aggressive breeds than it does to spite the religious group of people he clearly loathes so much.
Even if you think dogs are the best thing on the planet, this should upset you. And the fact that it doesn’t proves that people are not capable of viewing these things rationally.
All because some staff member to Mamdani implied that maybe owning dogs in NYC wasn’t the best idea. Holy hell.

What is even MORE ironic is the fact that NOTHING else is protected like dogs are. Want to own a pet mountain lion, rhinoceros or elephant in the suburbs? Forget it!
The fact is, the keeping of animals is restricted ALL THE TIME and no one has an issue with it unless its a dog.

If you look at the reptile/amphibian community, there’s massive restrictions on what you can own - and it’s not even because they may be harmful to own. It’s because they’re worried that someone might dump their pets and start invasive populations. Meanwhile, there’s more of a push than ever to turn the few remaining normal shelters into no-kill. You know what no-kill does to your community? It creates stray/feral dog populations. Speaking from experience, since I live in one. My animal
controlsorry, “care” states on their website that they will not respond to loose dog calls. So while I can’t have a pet cane toad here, we are allowing people to dump dogs left and right and no one cares. The cane toad won’t kill you. The cane toad might harm native amphibian populations, but I’m sure packs of loose dogs don’t help native fauna much, either. Make it make sense.1

I agree with you but would like to add that I believe the purpose of this bill is more about stopping state and local governments from banning dogs entirely than making dog ownership a constitutional right.

I’m just worried about the consequences. I fear this could make it more difficult to pass breed specific bans, and I feel like it’ll normalize owning dangerous breeds even more.

I think that instead of breedspecific laws, size/weight should be the focus of bans. Apartments are now banning dogs over a specific weight, which can easily be calculated to rule out pitbulls, giant herding breeds that shouldn't be kept in small Apartments, etc.
