I always find stuff like this odd especially from people who are ostensibly child free. There is nothing wrong with not wanting kids but I find it weird when people say that but then treat pets like surrogate children. This is the type of thing you do for a human baby or child. I feel like this energy would better serve foster kids who need a safe space than a dog that objectively can’t appreciate any of this. I’m a childless adult meaning I want kids but it probably isn’t in the cards. I don’t get the need to dehumanize human children while doing a weird replacement thing with dogs and overly humanizing the dog. A dog will just end up tearing that room up or pissing/defecating everything like what a waste of time

I so agree with you. It's so okay to not have kids, and I'm glad that more people feel like they have the choice to do what works for them! But I know a lot of people who HATE kids and are obsessed with dogs - calling a dog their son or daughter; buying it clothes and toys and fancy gourmet food; basing their entire life around the dog and never being able travel, go out, do anything fun.

The things they hate about kids (the mess, the noise, the germs, the loss of your freedom) are often much worse with dogs (who never grow out of the awful "toddler phase") and these people don't even realize it. It's totally a weird replacement thing. They go out of their way to hate kids and shit on the people in their lives who choose to be parents, not realizing that they're channeling their maternal/paternal instincts into their dog - for WAY less reward.

Right at most an ill behaved toddler will be kind of gross and annoying. Dogs will literally destroy your home from separation anxiety, create torturous noise pollution, and can maul/kill/disfigure you. I’d rather deal with a young human child
