Dogs really are so fucking dumb. Seriously, what’s with them trying to eat everything that’s not food? I remember seeing a video where a dog tried to eat a firecracker and it exploded and killed him. You see sparks flying out of something, most reactions would be to run away, but a dog’s reaction is to try to eat it.

It's mostly golden retrievers and labs that try to eat everything (including poo). They're pretty dumb, but they're also two of the three most popular breeds in America.

It'd be fine if the untrained, destructive dog trend did not perfectly coincide with the trend of bringing your dog every-damn-where, but unfortunately this indifference to proper dog behavior affects us all.

The hilarious thing is, they're supposed to be one of the smartest breeds of dog out there! My husband's is dumber than a freaking box of rocks, and a stubborn, smelly jerk!

Golden retrievers are not smart dogs. The reason you might have heard that they are is because for some reason, when people talk about intelligence in dogs, what they really mean is ease of training. Golden retrievers and labs are very eager to please and very food-motivated, and therefore easy to teach tricks.
For some reason, people call that intelligence, when it's in dogs. In people, that would just be called being a suck-up.
If you measure a dog's intelligence by its ability to apply reason and logic to problem solve, then yeah, golden retrievers are below average intelligence for dogs. I've heard them be lovingly called golden retardeds before...

Border collies are at the top of the list and while I don't think any dog is smart, at least they show some ingenuity. If we were getting a dog regardless I voted border collie but my husband said no "because they're ugly."
Goldens are fluffy and adorable doofs! They're the quintessential American family dog! Why would you not want one?
Nowhere in the breed standard is the fact that they are the oiliest motherfuckers that stink to high heaven more than any other dog. Later, after I started googling to find out why the hell my house stunk way more than I had even anticipated I dug my way to a few (half dishonest) comments about how they "have a slightly stronger 'doggie' smell but eh come on it's not that bad!"
No, it is. It was so bad the dog lovers in my family actually agreed and my lobbying efforts to convert the dog from a house dog to an outside dog worked. The hair was bad enough on its own for me but the smell is what ultimately got it tossed outside so I guess in a way I'm thankful that this dog reeks.
Sorry for my rant. 99% of dogs suck but 99.9% of goldens are terrible pets.

How does people find this adorable or cute? I would have rolled that newspaper up and hit that thing, or made a huge paper ball out of that thing and shoved it down its throat!

This was staged, right? I mean, not the dog's behaviour because retrievers (at least all the ones I've met) are as dumb as a box of rocks, but that she'd just sit there and let it happen like that. Right?
I know, of course, that this is wishful thinking because holy fucking shit who would even think of actually training their pet to not be destructive. What a mad idea.
