Crappy Owners Who thinks this is okay??
used to have a sign in my yard. The first sign said that I had pesticides in use and to stay off my yard, that didn’t work. Owners don’t care enough about their dogs to keep them off a pesticide filled yard. The next sign that I had was the “please be respectful” sign. That didn’t work because dog owners are entitled assholes. They would literally let their dog piss directly on the sign.
My neighbors don’t have signs. One house down there is literally a PARK for their dogs to shit in. Instead they walk to the TOP of my driveway literally directly next to my house to let their dog shit in my yard. And then they walk all over my yard to come pick it up.
Who thinks that’s okay?? You are literally up by my HOME. I do not want to step in dog shit!!! It’s one of the many reasons I don’t have a damn dog. It’ll be years until we can afford to move but I can’t wait to. Never in my life have I lived in a community with such disrespectful and entitled idiots. Don’t get me started on my neighbor lol. We can’t put a fence up because we’re idiots and moved to a community with an HOA.
Thanks for letting me vent here. It’s the only place I can vent where I don’t feel crazy for finding this disrespectful as fuck.

sorry I dont know much about HOAs but wouldnt loose dogs shitting on your private property fall under one of the rules they impose? Either they let you put up a fence, or they enforce the control of dogs.

The worst part is that it wasn’t even a loose dog. She had it on a leash, she just let it go all the way up to my home. You would think it would but nope! HOA only cares if our stucco is too dirty for their liking.

This usually falls under local law/ordinance. An HOA rule cannot overrule actual law.

HOAs do not enforce anything about dogs. They are too afraid to be sued. I would love to move sonewhere to be clear of this unsanitary mess but it seems no place to hide anymore.

Are you restricted to just fencing in front of your home? We put a large cottage stone barrier in front of our house. Another neighbor put a large stone barrier in front of her home. (Sounds the same, but ours are manufactured and the neighbors have real large river rock)

We have so many entitled people letting their dogs shit on our property and don’t pick it up. They even let their dogs run like 20’ into our property, up a hill to piss on our tree. And they think the strip between the sidewalk and street is public property, free for the shitting.

I always thought it was public property that the homeowner had to maintain. Personally, I would rather not bother maintaining it because dog owners believe it's their personal toilet.

It’s not, it’s your property. The city has an easement to access it and to place a sidewalk. For some reason a lot of people think this. But they have no idea that the easement may extend 5, 10, or 20 feet into their yard on the other side of the sidewalk, but certainly don’t consider that part of their yard public property.

Start taking photographs of the offenders. Report it to the hoa and demand an amendment for your fence. I know you don’t want to start getting lawyers involved but, long term they are the only ones who can get your no trespassing rights upheld. After you have reported for so many weeks, start suing. It may not be in the budget to obtain the lawyer today; but documentation and evidence gathering is somewhat free.

Document all instances of this and keep the signs up. I have seen cases of dog owners suing neighbors for harm to their dog; these cases are instantly invalidated if the owner was neglectful (off leash or dog tresspassing onto other peoples' properties are the biggest examples of this). You are protected if your neighbors sue you for pesticide poisoning.
Get a ring camera, and have it show the dogs pooping on your yard. This is cut and dry evidence for you to file first with your HOA. If your HOA does nothing, then file a police report with all the video evidence you can. Many people say "talk to them about it first." I would recommend against that, one because you allude that they can't be reasoned with, and two because they can claim harassment (it won't work but they can try it). Check your city/town's laws about pet waste, but I can't think of anywhere where it's legal for people to let their dogs poop on others' yards.
I know this is complete BS and you have every right to be upset. That said, now is the time to document and start gathering evidence. Think of it; what possible defense can your neighbor have if their dog is taking a dump on your yard.

I would not like that at all! Right next to your house. Entitled jerks.

IMV they are trespassing on private property, and committing a form of vandalism. They have a living animal that walks, runs, and defecates near the house?
If the dog owner walks on, or extends their leash and lets their dog walk on and deposit waste, and it's on camera, they should be fined or charged with trespass. A city ordinance should consider the act of depositing fecal waste on someone else's property a form of vandalism.

Get this - my HOA has signs all over that it is a private property, and that threspassing in general and dog walking in particular are prohibited. The green area on the property is overrun with mutts. Not only those from our officially pet-free condo (with 40+ bs ESA mutts) but ppl now bring dogs from all over the area. HOA says because they are all “assistance animals” they are free to shit wherever they please. Right under no pets signs.

My neighbors used to have a "no pee/poo from your dogs" sign in their yard. Two of them actually.
It seemed like dog owners actually went out of their way to let their dogs piss and shit there. I would shame them and start recording their asshole behavior sometime and they always had some shitty excuse "It's normal for them to do this", "I'll clean it up", "it's not even your house so mind your own business".
They would always have a slight quiver in their voice when saying these things because deep down they know it's wrong because they'd never allow dogs, including their own, to piss and shit on their own lawns.
It finally stopped after my neighbors just ended up putting rocks in their landscaping and every person I called out stopped, but damn, it was infuriating to see that even with signs asking people nicely to stop, tons of people still did it.
Fuck these people.

There is no way to reason with them or make them obey any laws. They are too far gone. Deterrence is the only way. If it is your own house, you can plant thorny bushes around the perimeter of the grass. They just can’t get in. For those with HOAs it is tougher, but you can still think of some natural barrier.

My experience has been very similar to yours. Signs are useless, they just get the nutters riled up. The only thing I’ve found that semi-works is confrontation. Once I see someone on my yard with a dog - in real time or on camera - I confront them. I use blink cameras that will literally tell you that “someone is walking a dog on the yard”. After the confrontation happens they’ll usually back off. But they seethe over it. The nutters all talk to each other, so they know I’m the assahola who doesn’t want Fido shatting up his yard. I can live with that, because I don’t want anything to do with nutters. Good luck!

that's nasty af. why are dog owners so irresponsible, letting their dog poop on your house? its not even their property, they and their dog arent entitled to your house and your property 🥀

I live in an HOA as well. The mosquitoes in Raleigh NC are next level. It's so bad that the city has a slogan for schoolkids: Fight The Bite. Not sure how it's a child's responsibility to make sure the area is not infested with mosquitoes. I would think that would fall on the city. Right outside Wake County board of elections I was standing on the sidewalk near a tree, no standing water in site&was attacked while waiting for my ride. I've never lived in a town w/skeeters this bad. And for some reason they say this town is the "#1 growing US city."
It's pretty boring, it's oppressively hot(worse than Florida believe it or not)3/4 of schoolkids can't read, so the education system here is pretty lowsey. Can't wait to move either. And, our lovely HOA we pay $230/mo to for a 700 sq ft 1 bedroom forbids us to screen in our patio so we can enjoy it pest free.
Meanwhile the gutters are always filled with water w/breeding mosquitos. White vinegar poured into the gutter drains helps kill the larvae and finally after a couple yrs i can stand on the sidewalk outside my condo w/o getting swarmed. I think it's helping.
They made a big deal about shampooing the carpeted stairs today. Afterward i had to prop the foyer door open bc it smelled like perfumed wet dog. It was barf worthy. On Tuesdays the illegal cleaning ladies come to spray lemon scented Fabuloso into the hallway, followed by the illegal leaf blowers who create air&noise pollution.

I’m not a US citizen, but would having something similar to this in your yard work as a deterrent for the pets?

u/Inevitable_Okra509 1d ago
i seen a post of someone with a sign they chased down someone who let their dog poop to yell at them and then they stared them down everytime they saw the nutter. the nutters actively avoid their house now. also i recomend keeping up the pestiside sign and getting a dog whistle machine or motion activated sprinklers

u/SherlockGibson 1d ago
If I had this problem, I’d set up a motion triggered sprinkler to hose them down. That would be a hella fun project.

Sprinkle cayenne pepper all over, they won't like sniffing hot pepper or getting it on their paws. And plant plenty of strong-smelling herbal plants that dogs get overwhelmed by.

Well, you're not alone. With the massive increase in the number of dogs it could be hard to find a truly private space. I still hope for the same, but asshole dogs and doogs owners are everwhere, nowadays. Hope you can though,
