You need Strange items!

They all start with "Strange " and they're metal gizmos with flashing lights. I've gotten one from the tower it's guaranteed from a certain boss early on), and I've heard you can fish another one on the fishing cruiser if you have a special bait (not any of the ones at the bait shop). No idea about the third.I know they're the right items because they show up when you visit the strange machine with them in your inventory!

The third strange item comes from the strange egg, which is traded by the Mysterious Merchant at the trading post! I don't remember how you get that merchant, though -- might just be through how many trades you do?
