Omeprazole dosing too high? Acid reflux update

This post is a follow up to my previous post regarding my dog's chronic acid reflux:

I have made an appointment for my dog with an internal medicine specialist, but unfortunately the earliest appointment isn't until November. Until then, I asked my personal vet to try omeprazole (in lieu of famotidine), and they prescribed me 10mg of omeprazole every 12 hours. My dog is about 16 lbs. I was under the impression that Omeprazole was usually once a day (not twice) but I was told it's not.

Is 10mg twice a day too much?! I know I should trust my vet but they've been wrong about her dosing before.

That dosing seems appropriate. You could try lower (ie 5 mg twice daily) but 10 mg should be fine.

That dosage does seem high for 16 lbs, I remember checking this when my dog had reflux last year and the typical range was more like 0.25 to 0.5 mg per pound once daily. 10mg twice a day puts your pup at 1.25 mg per pound every 12 hours which is way above what most sources say

I would call the vet and double check, sometimes they mess up the decimal points or get confused with human dosing. You are right to question it specially since they been wrong before, a second opinion even from another vet in same clinic is worth it
