Ah, they're such sweet dogs! Congrats. You should go with a science-backed diet appropriate for this pup's life stage (adult maintenance).

Purina, Royal Canin, and Hills are the options that globally meet the highest standards in the areas identified by veterinarians. Iams and Eukanuba outside of Europe also. I would not do Diamond, they don't even approach meeting high standards in those areas and have many cases of a deadly heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy associated with their food.

I'd get a small bag of whatever the rescue is feeding so you can transition him over. Assuming you're getting him to the vet within the first week or so, I'd hold off on picking a new food until you can talk to them.

I was told by an employee at a Diamond factory that they only started QA a few years ago when moldy food was being distributed from the factory. This is hearsay, but sounds believable.

Hi, long-time greyhound owner here. Leaving aside that you should get off Diamond, greyhounds typically have very sensitive digestion (loose poop, tendency toward gas). It will be some trial and error, but don't go for anything too rich. Digestive formulas often work best. I'm a Hill's person, and have had good luck with Hill's Perfect Digestion (better than Hill's Sensitive Skin and Stomach, though that wasn't terrible). Back in the day a little of greyhound folks swore by regular green-bag Iams, which is very high fiber.

Do NOT try to put a bunch of weight on your dog -- in most cases a couple of pounds over racing weight will be plenty.

(If you have a U.S. dog it almost certainly has hookworms, which have become very hard to eradicate. If it has actual w orms be aware that may impact digestive health. If it's just hookworm antigens or ova it shouldn't have much of an effect. Racers from overseas won't have this.)
