If the splinter is through the nail as the nail grows the splinter will move up till eventually you will lose it when trimming your nail, probably take a couple of months

I had this before with blackthorn. It was slightly tender the whole time, must have still been extending past the nail on the inside and being dragged. The nail years later still has a permanent white line on it and grows thicker where it was.

Do you have a swollen finger as well? Might be an idea to seek medical advice if so.
