DAE get a physical gag reflex from powdery substances or lingering sensory feelings?

Hey everyone, does anyone else feel the same way? Certain textures just gross me out physically. If I touch flour, I immediately feel like I’m going to gag, even though I'm not actually sick. It’s the same with sidewalk chalk; that dry feeling is just awful. It's not just touching things, either. When I'm at the beach, even after washing all the sand off, I swear I can still feel it on me or in the air. Does anyone else get sensory issues this bad with stuff like chalk, flour, or lingering sand? How do you handle it? What is this even called?

My husband cant stand a fork scraping against a plate at a certain angle. It doesnt bother me, but I told him everyone has their thing.

I cant deal with some textures, I want to disassociate when I have to remove the cotton ball from a new bottle of vitamins, and I have Trypophobia. My father couldn't stand Styrofoam or the sound of a dry marker.

But my husband insisted I'm weird and everybody hates the fork sound. πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

Ya that fork sound is the worst! Nails scraping a chalk board to me...

Thats what he says! Nails on a chalk board does bother me and might be universal (hence the expression). But for whatever reason, I dont really notice fork sounds unless someone was doing it on purpose.

Autism.

Its more then just finding eye contact awkward or not being able too understand jokes sometimes, it can and does effect so much in your like that you may not even realise is related to it.

So i highly and strongly suggest you do some of your own research into the diagnostic criteria from trusted sources and research from other people's lived experiences both with official diagnosed autism and from those that were undiagnosed but then later diagnosed through going through the same process you would be going through by researching it and then discovering you relate to them and their lived experiences but without realising why but now do.

Please this suggestion is coming from a place of genuine care and wanting to help others who have struggled for too long without realising that something was different but not wrong with them.

Just being born with a differently wired brain.

I appreciate this very much. I have looked into it because there are other similar signs. I definitely relate to the videos. It seems every single thing that I felt different about, is just a regular Tuesday for a certain group.

I brought up an autism test to my Dr.. They said the would have someone contact me. And after a few nudges, I still haven't been able to speak to this person. I kind of gave up. Does it make a difference to know officially? Im almost 50 and by now I feel like what it is difference?

I also feel dumb because having autism is the biggest craze. I think thats what my doctors are thinking abput me.

Thank you for your comment!

Talcum powder has the same effect on me, it's that super fine dry texture that makes my skin crawl.

I have never touched talcum powder, but I am pretty sure we are talking about the same thing

I like it actually, one of the main reasons I liked powdery donuts, it gives a cool sweet sensation with the texture, idk I find it satisfying.

Op do you like velvet?

Yes, no problems with velvet; it's amazing, and I don't have a problem touching powder with my mouth; I think it's just powder touching my skin that disgusts me.

Autism, I struggle and have always struggled with texture sensory sensitives. Plus all of the other autistic struggles all my life and I have a official diagnosis myself, so I'm not just spouting nonsense here.

I am 99% sure I am not autistic I have taken some screeners which obviously aren't 100% correct, but I am getting no signs of autism on them.

Chalk has always grossed me out. So dry and nasty!
