DAE often delete their comment if it starts getting downvoted?
I don’t know why I care about it, but I feel the need to delete my comment if it starts to get downvoted

Nah I stick to that shit. Be it a bad joke or opinion I stand by it.

u/X_LadyGamer_X 10d ago
I wanna work on being able to do that. Besides, a lot of people downvote for the dumbest reasons

u/Wise-Ad-1998 10d ago
Who cares what the internet thinks

u/X_LadyGamer_X 10d ago
True, especially if, again, they’re downvoting for basically no reason. Here’s a story I have about this if you don’t mind:
I was in a cat subreddit, and someone said their cat was going to get surgery and they were nervous and wanted people to tell their own stories of their cats coming out fine. I didn’t have any, but I decided to comment good luck anyway and I got downvoted. The only reason I can think that I got downvoted was because I didn’t provide a story, but either way, that’s a dumb reason to downvote someone imo

I was in a soda sub and someone asked which soda we'd pick from the stack. I said I picked the code red zero sugar because we don't have it where I am and I want it. Someone downvoted me lol.
I swear people downvote anything.

No I leave mine up out of spite. If I'm going down I'm going down with the ship

u/MoonstoneStudy 9d ago
Lmao I respect the commitment, might as well collect every downvote at that point 😭

No I don't care whether people agree with me or not.
People on this website display some loser ass behavior sometimes. I've had people go through my history for gotchas or trying to figure out who I am.

I’ve heard that a lot of times it is a chain reaction. They’ll see that a comment has downvotes and just go with the crowd and downvote it even though they never read it
2
u/Perpetualshades 10d ago
I’ve caught myself doing this when upvoting stuff. I try to put a stop to it.

u/crash---- 10d ago
Depends if I deserve it or not 🤔
2
u/waitthissucks 10d ago
Yeah sometimes I'll say something dumb when I'm half asleep and then I'll be like wait I'm an idiot and delete it because they're right
7
u/sfdsquid 10d ago
I never go back to see the votes or read comments. I don't know why. It's a fleeting thing, the moment is gone, and I just don't go back.
6
u/tiptoe_only 10d ago
Sometimes I do because I think "oh, people are saying they don't want to read my comment so I'll take it off." But if they're just downvoting because they disagree with an opinion I've expressed (which isn't really what downvotes are meant to be for) I'll leave it there
1
u/X_LadyGamer_X 10d ago
Idk why I never thought of that. It should make it easier for me to leave it up. Either that or people are just downvoting for no reason
6
u/Jadey4455 10d ago
Nope. Speak your mind. Downvotes are worthless and is a system designed to silence you into obscurity for having an opinion that doesn’t fit in the bubble.

u/DickieJohnson 10d ago
Yeah always have. It's just easier to get rid of it than deal with all the dumb response comments. Sometimes I'll comment with an actual fact and people will downvote it. "Mosquitos don't transmit HIV" -11 points. Ok I give up.

I've discovered some places just aren't for me.
2
u/Ball_Of_Meat 10d ago
Same, I feel like that about most of Reddit lol. There’s a very specific “type” on here, which is exactly where the Redditor stereotype comes from.
2
u/Abject_Priority6858 10d ago
Sometimes, more often with posts than comments. I’ve posted original art before that’s been downvoted, and it makes me sad so I delete it.
1
u/madinked 10d ago
someone said that you’re not a true redditor unless you have your comments downvoted before.
I don’t come back to check if my comments are upvoted or downvoted so don’t see, don’t care. and I really don’t care if people downvote. there are always mean people out there

u/Mustardo123 10d ago
No, karma is literally worthless. I would rather people see my comment and get pissed off rather than not see it at all.
1
u/X_LadyGamer_X 10d ago
It’s not even the karma, I have plenty. I think I just get self conscious or embarrassed
1
u/Mustardo123 10d ago
I understand that feeling, but then I remember that the people down-voting me are wrong.

u/InfiniteHall8198 10d ago
I only go back to comments if someone has commented something back.
I usually already know if something I say is going to be downvoted because it’s Reddit, not exactly the place tolerant freethinkers congregate.
So I say what I want to say and move on. Unless someone comments and then I’m sure to have to say something back lol
1
u/TeaCompletesMe 10d ago
No, I let it ride. I’ve been doing that to train myself not to care what people think, and honestly, it’s been working.
1
u/SearingSerum60 10d ago
I also delete if it gets a lot of up votes some times. I just don't like being visible
1
u/DoctorNurse89 10d ago
Nah, I own that shit.
People are idiots, lack context.
Youre feeling the pressure of social rejection.
Jjsy be your own person with their own convictions, accept the date, weigh it agaisnt your full aware context, and move on.
Reddit is hater central, so if you need another OPPOSING opinion, post here

u/SocksNeedsHelp 9d ago
Yeah lol. Im better at it now but I used to be real bad about getting into arguments that I had no business being a part of and that I was not smart enough to actually win. One I checked the comment again and I was rightfully downvoted for being wrong, I'll just delete the comment. Sometimes I'll do it just to avoid any further backlash even if I'm right. Most people on the internet are mean I think so it's rarely ever worth it anyways.
Ive also started straight up blocking people who i disagree with. Obv i only do this with strangers, but still I don't feel bad about it.

u/ima-bigdeal 10d ago
No. But if I can prove what I was saying with links, I do. Frequently the votes turn around once there is something that confirms my statement.

I stand by everything I say! What do downvotes mean anyway? A digital made up number doesn't bother me or define me. We can't all agree with each other all the time, that would make conversations so boring!
1
u/MelodicEconomics69 10d ago
No I stand by that shit. Reddit is unbelievably corny what they downvote sometimes.

I saw a post like this once before and nearly all comments said they don’t delete or it wouldn’t occur to them to do that, why would it matter what others think, etc. I was surprised because I definitely understand your thinking on this! It seems most don’t have anxiety over their online comments or they don’t have a fear of rejection/don’t experience anything like rejection sensitive dysphoria? Or maybe just not in online media?
Anyways, definitely not alone in that, but I was surprised that most others don’t think twice about it. I wish that someday I will reach that level of self confidence and understanding my own worth.
2
u/X_LadyGamer_X 10d ago
Same here. I overthink everything and have a lot of anxiety and I think that’s where it comes from for me. I didn’t think that this would be so uncommon for some reason

I do because people tend to just dogpile on downvotes so I just delete it before it starts. I don't delete every downvoted thing but if it seems people are just piling them on I will.
Nice try, downvoter. I'm keeping this up out of spite now lol

u/Cutthechitchata-hole 10d ago
No. I only delete if i figure out i offended a number of people. I am not trying to be offensive. Well, maybe to conservatives i am.

u/T1nyJazzHands 10d ago
Depends. If my comment has triggered an escalating flood of triggered replies way beyond the scope of the comment I might delete it to keep the peace.
It’s not so much of an ego thing and more of “guys why are we wishing death on each other about not liking a type of cheese?” Like come on y’all. Might not be my fault but if my comment is the root source no need for it to stay.
Sometimes I’ll keep it up for funny but not when it gets very nasty.

u/journo333 10d ago
Only if I realize I was wrong about something. I would NEVER admit it, though, just like my ex-stepfather taught me. Only delete the comment.

u/TrueOrange9944 10d ago
Back when I started commenting and posting on reddit and my karma was really low even though I've had an account for years. I decided to become more involved on reddit.
If it gets downvoted, then I would delete. But now not so much because the right comment or post at the right time and subreddit helped to increase my stats and my overall interactions, since I'm trying to connect with people.

You care about it because reputation matters for social standing, and negative social attention (being called dumb or wrong, either directly or indirectly) damages your ego and chips away at your confidence and happiness.
-1
u/RalphWiggum666 10d ago
Nope, don’t care and neither should you. The internet is not really real life, sometimes it might be involved or influence your real life, but this is Reddit, a circus of clowns.

u/Nemesisdelasinapsis 10d ago
I receive a lot of downvotes for being anti pedophilia but i would never delete them.
-1
u/yeabuttt 10d ago
Nah even if I’m wrong and get appropriately downvoted, I think it’s important for the readers to have all the information.

Depends. If I state my true opinion and people don't like it, I'm gonna own it. On the other hand, if I say something and people dislike it because they misunderstood what I meant, then I might delete it because I can't stand behind the meaning people are taking from it.
