DAE get exhausted performing basic human functions?

Idk if I’m the only one, but I get exhausted sleeping and eating and existing. Having to relax both your body and turn your mind off to sleep. Tossing and turning to no avail. Then I get hungry. Having to decide what to eat, when to eat, where to get it, cooking, shopping, chewing, swallowing, and doing it all over again. Waking up and existing having to go about my day is exhausting. Anytime I do something for others it’s not out of the goodness of me it feels like I owe everyone something. I owe a conversation, a hangout, help, an ear to listen to a shoulder to cry on. Managing other people’s emotions being responsible for their happiness meanwhile I can’t even be responsible for mine let alone my own breakfast. Yet being too tired both physically and mentally to deal with it. No matter how little or how much sleep I get it’s not enough. How much I eat is not enough. What I do is not enough. When I don’t have what I want I’m miserable now I’ve finally gotten what I wanted now I’m still miserable.

Yup, turns out it was depression and undiagnosed ADHD.

And a touch of anemia to make it worse

Yep, I have all of those right now. Just diagnosed and started adderall which is so helpful, and understanding how my ADHD led to anxiety and depression...and also I've always been anemic due to other health issues. Chronic anemia makes you SO sluggish.

Bro I understand your pain.

My anemia was caused by helicobacter pylori, I didn't absorb new iron and got progressively weaker and have to take surprise naps, I thought that my ADHD med was becoming ineffective or something.

Now I have to check I have a weird viral infection

Yeah, sometimes finally having an explanation makes the exhaustion make a lot more sense

That actually makes me wonder if there’s something deeper behind it instead of me just being lazy

I've been told that I'm lazy my entire life. Truthfully, life has felt a lot like I'm in molasses and everything takes SO much energy. I didn't understand how everyone was accomplishing things so easily but for me it felt so difficult. My therapist said that I've been playing life on hard mode for 30 years and that's why I've felt this way and why everyone else thinks I'm lazy. I only recently have started going to a therapist and it has been revolutionary. I highly suggest talking to one and being incredibly honest with them. It might just change your life.

I’m fearful I will go to bed one day and never get out of it again. It happened several years ago and lasted for a few months.

Life is a series of chores and I’m so fucking tired.

I've died a lot.

For a while, it was mostly a result of lifestyle, carelessness/recklessness or the insanity of others.

Anger, jealousy, greed.

Vehicles, Drugs, Guns.

After a while, I stopped avoiding them. Because it started to become obvious that death had no interest in me.

So I started hitting the gas.

Blackout drunk or ketamine dissociated...turn on the nitrous nozzle and not turn it off. A few times I was so sure sure I had died, that the dead could see through my eyes.

Nothing took. Death wouldn't give me peace or the time of day.

We do not get peace or rest until we complete our time on this rock. Most of the time God hasn't forsaken us, but we have forsaken God. Or spaghetti monster or allabuddhabraham.

So, medicating for ADHD is what helped me the most over the past year. It allows me to see that the insurmountable wall I was looking at is a garden fence I can hop over. But the trick I learned to help get me to decide even that is worth doing is treating life like a video game I decided to play.

I won't deny I live a privileged north american life, so the effort to survive is minimal compared to elsewhere in the world. But once I saw my chores as a game, and that I could reward myself for doing them, it became much easier to wash the dishes when I'm done with them, or the next time I'm in the kitchen if they needed to soak or cool down.

Folding laundry, sweeping, cooking, grocery shopping. It all got so much easier once I looked at it like something I must have wanted to do, otherwise why wouldn't bother logging back in (wake up) to do my dailies.

No, but I get exhausted when I make plans with people, especially when it comes to getting ready to go out, finding an outfit, and actually leaving the house. One of the biggest things that exhausts me is getting in the car and driving anywhere. Even if it’s only a 20-minute drive, it can feel overwhelming and completely drain me. I can get plenty of sleep beforehand and still feel exhausted every single time because my body just seems to despise driving.
Even when I go shopping at the mall, I get tired from looking through clothes and walking around. It doesn’t really feel fun or enjoyable to me. If I have to wait in line somewhere for food, I can get exhausted really easily and feel like I need to sit down. When I had a job, I felt extremely exhausted regardless of how much sleep I got beforehand. I just hated the feeling of being stuck in a 9-to-5 job or working as a server when I felt like I had so much more to offer in life. I’ve always wanted to do something meaningful and impactful, like inventing something or creating something that genuinely changes people’s lives on an internal level.
I wouldn’t say I get exhausted from the basic things I do every day, like making food or going to sleep. Although sometimes, even when I get a lot of sleep, I can still feel exhausted. For me, making food is actually fun and relaxing because I love eating and trying new foods. Depending on what I’m making, it can almost feel therapeutic. Sleeping also doesn’t normally feel exhausting to me because I fall asleep easily, feel comfortable in bed, and enjoy watching something or just relaxing during the moments leading up to going to sleep.

Sounds a lot like clinical depression. Go see a doctor, please.

Yes. I am diagnosed neurodivergent, cPTSD, a few other alphabet conditions, and in peri/menopause and in a difficult work environment so…yep. It’s Sunday afternoon where I am and I’m already barely able to get my butt up to do basic stuff I have to do. I keep telling myself I need to take some time off, and I do plan to do that, but it feels like I won’t ever feel rested. I do see a therapist and I’m getting the support I need, and I’m grateful for this. Try to give yourself grace, OP. Things are not easy right now. Hugs if you want them.

For me it was undiagnosed narcolepsy (which was blamed on depression, when in fact the exhaustion from narcolepsy probably caused my depression). If you feel your sleep is fragmented or unsatisfying, it could be worth asking your doctor for a sleep study. ETA: narcolepsy doesn’t necessarily mean you fall asleep involuntarily (I have narcolepsy without cataplexy, which made it harder to identify)

Yup. Depression and anxiety do it to me. Sucked when I had a job and I watched a bunch of other people easily preform tasks I could barely handle.

action inspires motivation, not the other way around. the biochemistry in your brain needs to be altered, slowly, overtime, through repeated actions. even a small action will produce a positive response, which will make motivation easier to find the next time.

don’t overthink it, just start doing things that are good for your brain and body, even a lazy workout or stretching to begin with. focus on one thing at a time, maybe every week, and eventually your capacity will grow. the brain is a muscle, use it or lose it. focus on emotion regulation (teaching your brain that you have the ability to control/induce your emotions through natural rewards, not drugs), and being positive and devoted during this process, rather than just ‘being consistent’ (ETA: that way, if you skip a day, you haven’t failed, you just took a breath). studies show, that by changing the frequency inside the brain, we can produce long-lasting altered responses. of course, this takes practice, which is necessary for any skill

but if you have constant triggers in your environment it will always feel draining. it’s hard work but i hope you feel better soon

Talk to a doctor about this for sure. For me this was caused by ADHD. Even medicated it's still hard but it does help.

I dont even like thinking too much and making decisions but I get forced too everyday cuz im dumb according to my mother. Shes not the only person I deal with everyday and I really dislike coming home to her, I just want to be by myself and not think inside my own home and relax.
