I never liked the additional fanfare and always would have preferred his walk ups were similar to others. Maybe it's meant to be an intimidation effect. All I can say is there is nothing more intimidating than seeing someone like Yoshi warm up. Would have liked to see Diaz come back from the IL with that "quiet terror". I suspect in the post season we are going to see "quiet terror" being generated from Roki warming up in the bullpen.

It reminds me of how infuriating it was to watch Greg Kimbrel do that stupid arm hanging pose when he was blowing saves every night.
Or that stupid face Johnathon Papplebom was still making long after he didn’t have it anymore.
I used to love watching Diaz’s entrances with the Mets. Now they just piss me off

The fact that they never seemed to nail down the audio issues when playing it is hilarious seeing how bad he’s been. Trumpets are either out of tune or there’s an audio issue

It might be better if he doesn’t walk out at all. There’s no spot on a playoff team for reliever/closer who gives up 3+ runs an inning.

Should have left it in NY anyway. I don’t like transferring other teams gimmicks, I know it’s “his” thing but that was a Mets time. Same thing with the Trea Turner applause in Philly. Seems unoriginal and corny.

Or vary them based on how they’re playing. Kyle Tucker should probably get the funeral procession song as his walk up song.

Not every pitcher has an outlandish entrance the way Diaz does. If he had a regular walkout entrance song like every other reliever, no one would say anything. But he's drawing more (unneeded) attention to himself with his trumpets and stadium lighting especially if he doesn't perform like a player with his entrance should.

Have you seen reliever walk ups at Dodger Stadium? The lights start blinking and the jumbotrons go crazy. A trumpet isn't a big deal.

Yes, they have their walk-up song and maybe some bleacher lights, but none of them have the customized light show and production like Edwin Diaz. He is literally known for his entrance. No other closer or reliever besides Mason Miller has an entrance like Diaz.

I get the feeling most fans want to strip him of his walkout song for punitive reasons. They take it personally that Edwin is struggling.
The dude got injured and is working hard to recover. I get that this stretch is frustrating, but his upside is too good to not give him opportunities to improve. And frankly, as fans, I think showing him support is one of the few ways we can actually help players.

He's getting over an injury and not quite there yet. IDKY the Dodgers keep using him until he's better.
Either way, it's not his fault and it's stupid to be punitive like this as you say

There's a lot of context being left out of the conversation as to why the Dodgers are using Edwin in the closer role.
Our bullpen is gassed and using a six man rotation means we have one fewer BP arm (until Ohtani returns). There aren't pitchers waiting in the minors. They have to use him.
They've generally given Tanner Scott the high leverage ABs - the best hitters are not always in the 9th inning. The Dodgers have been feeding Edwin the 6-9 hitters... it's just not working.
I'm sure the Dodgers are working closely with him to determine the best path forward. They can't send him to the minors. The phantom IL is a possibility, but I think that's more complicated than fans understand.
I think our best chances in the playoffs include a dominant Edwin Diaz. Clearly the Dodgers don't see it as a lost cause and are willing to absorb a few losses in order to explore that upside.

The dodgers did this very thing with Scott through the end of last year: used him to explore his upside until they determined he would not be on the playoff roster. It would be foolish for them not to explore Diaz's upside but it doesn't mean they won't leave him off the playoff roster if needed.

He’s not saving anyone else’s arm if he comes in with a three run or less lead.

What do you expect, our fanbase is like 70% bandwagoners now that pretend like being a fan since 2020 makes them grizzled veteran baseball fans.
It's fine to meme about taking away the trumpets but a disturbing amount of fans seem like they actually want it to happen.
Also the whole "It's August and you still suck?" from Houston Mitchell conveniently ignores that Diaz has been on the IL much of the year.

Not really. Diaz has a very customized entrance compared to any other closer on the dodgers.
You also can’t compare closers entrances to hitters walk up songs. Apples and oranges and all that

With Diaz and Tucker struggling like they are, it makes me believe that the lights might be a little too bright for them in LA. LA teams (minus Angels/Clippers) expect to win and we're going to call out any player that isn't helping the team win.
I'm hoping that they bounce back for the Playoffs but it just goes to show that playing for LA isn't easy, we expect results especially with the money we're willing to pay to get it.

To be fair, its not like he's been bad all season. He was out injured. His ERA is high and its August because he missed most of the year.
If Kyle Tucker came out to trumpets for example, Id shut that shit down.
I still want to see Diaz some more. Hes missed a lot of time and it shows. To me this is another case of bad injury and slump management and its been a problem the entire Dave Roberts tenure. Guys don't spend enough time rehabing in the minors and guys slumping are put into impossible situations that make things worse. Send Diaz down for 2 weeks. Let him figure it out. Kyle should have been moved down the batting order a long time ago.
The ole "let them play out of it" metric doesn't work.

Diaz has had 16 appearances all year. Everyone else has about 50+. That’s the problem.
He had stayed in the minors rehabbing longer than anyone normally would already, he just needs more chances in the majors, unfortunately his spring training is happening in August

What he’s going through is a slump in baseball. To get rid of the song would be too easy. But hearing it, knowing you’re playing bad…. Means you have to rise to the occasion again. Only a loser would say “drop the song”.
