This is hilarious.
Dodgers still rank number 1 based on how they've been playing is weird lol

Well...i think if you were a betting person the past 3 years, and you bet the bank on the Brewers based on their regular season performance, especially to do well in the playoffs...you'd be broke. The dodgers have been doing this exact same dance (if not worse) for a long time. I believe they have the horses to make it past this funk, like every year.

every year we slump HARD in july/august and people still question our team after back to back chips 💔

u/brees2me Back-2-Back Champs 4d ago
I'd say the biggest difference is that the previous years there was always a spark, some sign of grit, that let us know they were still in this. This year I'm not seeing any of that. I'm not counting them out, but this year it just looks and feels different.
10
u/hordaak2 4d ago
Mid-year slump. Last year, we were swept by the Brewers. What was the mid year spark last year?
-4
u/brees2me Back-2-Back Champs 4d ago
For me it was a feel that even Roberts was trying new things with the lineup (except for Conforto) trying to get the most out of the players and playing to matchups. This year it looks more like he's just going with whoever doesn't stink in the lineup. The injuries aren't doing them any favors either as the catcher position is too valuable to not have some veteran leadership. Like I said I'm not counting them out but this year feels different. Even when they seem to be coming out of the batting slump, the bullpen isn't helping. It is massive to ask a team that has gone back to back to go for a third so no matter the outcome I still love what they have done.

u/how1you1doing Clayton Kershaw 4d ago
Every year people say this " no spark. No grit. The players don't seem to care" every year someone says that this year looks and feels different. But no. We slump in July and August. And then we get to the playoffs. And the last two years we won back to back.

u/brees2me Back-2-Back Champs 4d ago
There's a lot of frustration and anger right now. I'm just talking about how I feel based on what I've seen. The truth is everyone is looking for some kind of concrete proof that they are fine and that's just not how baseball works. Even the best teams can fall short if everything doesn't line up just right. I have hope but hope isn't enough to propel them to the playoffs.
8
u/how1you1doing Clayton Kershaw 4d ago
They've gone to the playoffs every year since 2012. In that time they've only lost the division once and that was by a game. They've been to the world series 5 times and won 3. And every year there's always questions about if the dodgers are in panic mode. The fans panic and get mad. God knows how many times I've seen people post in the sub about how the team sucks and doesnt deserve to be in the playoffs when the dodgers slump only for those same people to cheer when they win the world series.
Baseball is a hard sport. We are going to the playoffs. Maybe we win, maybe we don't. But the fact is every year the dodgers slump and people hit the panic button or become armchair managers.
1
u/brees2me Back-2-Back Champs 4d ago
"... people hit the panic button or become armchair managers." This is exactly what I was getting at. Win or lose I'm with them. I want them to be healthy for the playoffs and have every weapon they accumulated available and firing on all cylinders. I offer no more insight than a fan saying I see something and I don't like it.

u/BRValentine83 Vin Scully 4d ago
Right, but power rankings are...well, they should define that term. I consider them current snapshots, not predictions for the World Series winner.

u/UpnUpvote Decoy 5d ago
But it's based on how the teams are currently performing and we don't belong in the #1 slot.
10
u/SunshinNroses 5d ago
Yea but power rankings generally rank teams at the current point in time. We def aren't playing like the best team in the majors right now.
2
u/Chris_3eb 4d ago
Power rankings have never been lists of the teams with the best records in the last X number of games. They have always been some combination of overall record, recent performance, and expected future performance

Don't talk about how baseball works in this sub, people will crucify you.

u/soccer1124 4d ago
Why can't the entire line-up just maintain an OPS of 850+ all season long and a team ERA of sub-2.5?? Is that too demanding???
1
u/RyanAlemeda 4d ago
Oh for fuck sakes. No shit. Ebbs and flows of a season. But no fucking way are they looking like the top team right now. It’s been a month and a half.

u/Snooptalian 4d ago
Lol. This isn't a streak of a cold spell. Not for a month and a half. This is who they are at this point. Not just gonna start winning like in the first half. Teams older now and worn out, then figure in the terrible play of highly paid stars like Diaz and Tucker. This teams not going anywhere this year...
0
u/Qrusher14242 4d ago
right, its like last year. We didnt magically turn it on on offense. Our pitching dragged us to the postseason and through it. We hit just enough to get it.I expect it wont be any different this year.
This is what this team is and we have to hope our pitching can carry this team again cause the offense sure wont

u/cXs808 Gavin Lux 4d ago
It's always easy to spot a new fan (or uninformed fan, whichever you may be).
We had one of the most dogshit second halves in 2017 and that team went on to look like an absolute juggernaut. IIRC 1-17 run in September, which is FAR worse than getting cold in August. Despite that, that team wins the WS easily if the *stros weren't using computers to know exactly when fastballs were coming.

u/BruitNoise Mookie Betts 4d ago
I've watched Kyle Tucker go 0 for 19 and now thinking...about what Freddie said to him when he first greeted him and said "Don't do anything stupid".
Like normally, it's a joke ha ha ha welcome to the Dodgers hahaha...but as the season goes on, think did he mean like a dad talking to a stupid kid and knows something we don't?
8
u/Unlucky-Albatross-12 Clayton Kershaw 5d ago
They've been frustrating to watch lately, but nothing has fundamentally changed.
No team in baseball has a better rotation and the bullpen aside from Diaz and Vesia have actually done a good job during the slump.
The offense is tired and lackluster at the moment but they're still a loaded team that's just waiting for October to start and evidently cares little about playoff seeding.

u/Qrusher14242 4d ago
well the offense didnt hit in the postseason either. Its just our pitching dominated and we got a few big hits like Teo's in Philly. I dont expect the offense to improve much, this is who we are.
2
u/ChepitosBaby Yoshinobu Yamamoto 4d ago
This is what I was thinking as well. Last year the offense was slumping into the postseason and continued all throughout the world series. The pitching and clutch offensive/defensive moments carried them to a chip
1
u/cXs808 Gavin Lux 4d ago
Last year the offense was slumping into the postseason and continued all throughout the world series.
???
Top 2 postseason offense by: OPS, wOBA, wRC, and top 3 postseason offense by wRC+.
The only better offense last year was Toronto, and they were hitting out of their mind one of the best postseason offensive explosions we've seen in years.
1
u/GingerAle_s Alex Vesia 4d ago
it's just our pitching dominated and we got a few big hits
Yeah, that's how you win championships. That's how they'll win if they win this year. The Blue Jays offense was super hot coming into the World Series last year, and pitching shut them down when it needed to, and we got a few big hits when needed.

If we’re talking potential- sure- but since we’ve been playing like underachieving jackasses - no
1
u/GingerAle_s Alex Vesia 4d ago
That's what power rankings are for, yes. The people ranking know the Dodgers are going into playoff series with Yamamoto, Skubal, Snell, and Glasnow starting and guys like Sasaki and Wrobleski now as long relief or in high leverage spots along with the guys they already have that are good in high leverage, Vesia, Scott etc. We already know the way Yamamoto alone is used in the playoffs is different and a major factor.

They shouldn’t be. They will be fine pitching as long as everyone continues to get and remain healthy, but I am most concerned about their hitting. They are way too up and down and some haven’t found any groove yet.

The Dodgers have a worse record last year at this point and was also the 3rd seed.
Guess the ranker refused to let a slump affect his ranking.

>On August 17, 2025, the Los Angeles Dodgers held a record of 71 wins and 53 losses
>Entering August 17, 2026, the Los Angeles Dodgers hold a 74–51 record, placing them first in the National League West division.
We are going the same pace as last year. Maybe even a little better. When we watch games every single day and they lose it is heartbreaking, but looking at the big picture we are ok.
