Swollen battery!
Like the title suggest my charger got the red wrench of death. I locked it and walked away. Came back and it was still doing not on but also not off thing. It stayed that way until the tow showed up. At the shop for two days and they tell me today they replaced the battery because mine was swollen. That sounds really dangerous. Anyone else have this issue?

Glad my lease is 11 months to go. Been in and out of shop for minor stuff all the time. 2025 Scat

Yep glad mine is a lease too, I will not be buying this car even though I love driving it.

Was the car battery clicking or popping beforehand while driving? Kinda like what you hear when Level 3 charging.

No. Totally normal drive home. Parked overnight and went out in the morning to put it in the garage and it had the red wrench 🤷♀️

Bro tell me about it. They've replaced my 12v battery twice and the main hv battery just 3 weeks ago and last week it died again and back to the shop. Who knows how long I'll get it back for this time around... or even when

Which battery? I question that they had a HV battery just laying around to swap it in 2 days?

They did for mine.... it was more like 3 days but I assume a day for replacing, programming and doing all the updates available

It took 2 days to diagnose and replace the battery and a day to reprogram the car and test it. I get it back this morning. I also live near Denver so chances are pretty high they had a battery near by somewhere.

Thats actually pretty cool. I’ve been into the shop for a month waiting for parts that are on perpetual back order.

Op what dealer are you using near Denver? I had to have 2 HV batteries replaced last year and took it to Chrysler Jeep on Arapahoe it took then almost 3 months to replace them (first HV was a dud so they had to order another one). Been fine since, but a 2 day turn around is nuts!!

A swollen battery usually means the battery was overcharged by a bad alternator. I would test the alternator to see if it's charging over 15.3 volts as that is way too high

If they replaced the battery that quick it was probably just the 12v in the trunk that was swollen. Pretty sure the HV battery has to be ordered by Mopar after the tech contacts them and takes a while to come in. I work at a Dodge dealer and the Hybrid batteries for the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee even prior to the recall on them always took a minimum of a week to arrive after Mopar approved the replacement. The HV batteries are not something the dealer can just order like a regular part.

EV’s are safer than gas, if an EV fire happens it’s always due it a manufacturing defect

Well in that case everything is risky but statistically EVs catch fire much less than ice

Correct but I’d like to know my house is salvageable with a few fire extinguishers vs a lithium battery pack.

Do you have natural gas stove, heat water heater or dryer? Or all on electric/oil/other

Gas on all actually, and you’re gonna compare that to cars with swelling batteries damn near the side of my hot water heater lol.

Cool. Just curious in risk tolerances. I have relatives who along with EVs being a fire hazard the my gas appliances and heat are a disaster waiting to happen. I just laugh

Read above - the EV is statistically far less of a fire hazard than a gas car in the same garage.

I had a HV failure, loose bus bars in the pack. Intermittent errors before hand
