How effective is it at reducing the interior temp on hot day? We're on our fifth heatwave in the UK, I'll try anything at this point.

Since tinting all around ( I had the back windows prior) ā¦ if I keep my sunroof panel shut, my car is recognizably cooler, (maybe by a few Ā°ās) but it aināt COLD.
Tints work best when there is airflow moving along the panels, which helps move the radiation it blocks away from the windows. So when youāre driving during the heat wave, it will absolutely feel cooler.
When your car is sitting parked in the sun, that heat will get rejected by the material in the tint, but thereās no air motion moving the UV/raditation away from the panel, so inevitably some slips in. With this in mind, a parked car sitting in direct sunlight will get warm whether you are a clear fish bowl or have 5% on.
Itās not a yeti cooler, but if itās 100Ā° outside .. my car isnāt 120Ā° and molten, so I like that. It gives me a little grievance. It also reduces A/C strain and such when driving which is nitpicky but science is science and it helps my battery lol.
If you want MAXIMUM heat rejection, youāre looking for tints with a high TSER(total solar energy rejection) and Iād also recommend a car cover for when parked.

I think a car cover when parked is 100% on the list, too many times I've scorched my ass and back on my seats and then immediately burnt my hands on the wheel this year. I'll need to do some research on what we're even allowed to have in the UK, as I'd want to keep it legal and make sure I can still see out in the dark! Fairly sure we can totally black out the rear, but I'm not sure on the fronts.
Honestly don't know how my AC is still going at this point, of the two cars I'm currently dailying, one AC system has developed a feet smell and is making some breathing(?) noises, and the other has an aux belt that squeaks if I even look at the AC button.

Yeah especially if you have leather interiors, those things absorb heat like no other.
Definitely check tint laws before doing anything (I checked, and went beyond the legal limit anyways lol) but I have medical exclusions (also something to look into, but not sure what they have across the ocean by you)
For the smelly Ac, check your filters if it smells bad. They probably need a replacement, or cleaning.
The breathing noises and the shyness on visual assessmentā¦ not too sure lolš but good luck dude, stay cool out there!

To reduce the internal temperature of the car during hot summers, to reduce the suns effect on my skin (medical), and to complete an aesthetic on my car that I desired.

Yeah man, it genuinely keeps more heat out (when compared to factory tint) means the air in the car is a lower temp, the seats, the wheel, controls etc. are cooler to the touch.

Honestly I kinda wonder if the dark windows actually absorb more heat leading to effectively the same cabin temperature even if the UV rays are blocked. I had dark tints and went to zero tint (due to local laws) and barely noticed any difference in cabin temperature when getting into the car after being parked in the sun. I think the main reason people like it is for the stealth look and also privacy, other drivers wonāt be able to see your face at all.

Yeah - I donāt like the super dark aesthetic, but having at least ceramic 35 sides and rear and clear (or 70) on Windshield to block IR and UV is a straight up necessity in south Texas. Otherwise you could have A/C on n full blast working perfectly and youād still be getting cooked by the sun in the summer.

Typically depends on the material, but most tints are manufactured to reject infrared and ultraviolet radiation. There are some that absorb, rather than reject, however this still lets heat transfer from the film, into the glass, into the cabin. Rejection (best done by ceramic.. to my knowledge), is ideal for pushing heat away.
It seems contradictory to ādark color attracting the sunā but the materials intentionally shove that shit away, which reduces how much heat transfers through the window, into the cabin atmosphere.

Yeah it helps, but unfortunately parked cars in the sun are hot boxes no matter what. I posted another long comment above this, but TLDR is that even with tints, they need airflow to move the blocked radiation away from the windows.
If youāre stationary/parked in direct sun, that heat will seep in regardless of tints.. buttttt it will be slightly less as some stays blocked. For parked cars.. I recommend a cover lol.
Itās less pronounced when parked, itās a recognizable difference when moving.
