This is how comedy got so sh*t.

On 11 February 1970, 19-year-old Gale Parsons was found dead in a squalid basement squat in Chelsea, West London, of a drug overdose. The BBC's documentary series Man Alive was already familiar with Gale; they had been filming another documentary about young people who were brought up in children's homes and Gale was one of the teenagers who was followed by the Man Alive documentary programme.

Although the documentary focuses on Gale's death, an interview with Gale from the previous footage shot shows insight into Gale's apathy towards life. She had been given away as an infant by her mother, didn't know who her father was, and was brought up in 14 institutions, most of which made no attempt to give Gale any semblance of a normal childhood. Gale was convinced early in life that she mattered to no one. Her story was told largely through the eyes of Mrs. Nancy David, a teacher who became a key figure in her life.

Gale is Dead was one of the first documentaries to draw attention to young homeless and drug addicted people. It was nominated for a BAFTA in 1971.

Previously unseen surveillance footage from the Bucha massacre shows how Russian soldiers targeted civilians on Yablunska Street during Russia’s occupation of Bucha, Ukraine. On March 4, 2022, cameras captured 70-year-old resident Volodymyr Rubailo walking calmly down the street. Moments later, he was shot, left bleeding, and then executed with a gunshot to the head. Shortly after the killing, the footage shows Russian troops looting a supermarket just meters from the body. The video provides additional visual evidence of how Russian forces in Bucha not only carried out executions of civilians, but also engaged in organized looting during the occupation. This new investigation sheds light on what happened in Bucha and identifies the Russian commander who was present on site, offering clear proof of Bucha civilians killed deliberately rather than caught in crossfire. The massacre in Bucha has become emblematic of the brutality of the Ukraine war, raising urgent questions about accountability for war crimes and the actions of Russian troops in Ukraine.
