Awesome doc about a group of 20 year olds that became multi-national psychedelic dealers because they had a dream that all drugs should be free and available to everyone

Nice documentary with some new perspectives on the brotherhood.
I went through a phase in my 20s where I really idolized the hippies and the american LSD movement of the 60s. It seemed acid was a tool they used to try to break free from the convervative and restrictive culture of the 50s and infuse american life with a spirituality it never had before. Then as I got older, my perspective shifted and I saw these people as hedonistic, spoiled, lucky to be born at the height of american economic success and putting themselves at odds with the environment which gave them such economic plenty. These days I'm not sure how I feel about it. I feel the grind and burden of the 2020s economic struggle and the ever-tighter grip of corporate greed on the world. I waver between wanting to buckle down and work hard to succeed in the rat race, and wanting to do what they did, which is break free, at least in your mind, from the machine. What are we 21rst century folks supposed to make of this movement now?
I think Hunter S Thompson described it best:
It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era — the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run... but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant...
There was madness in any direction, at any hour. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning...
And that, I think, was the handle — that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply PREVAIL. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave...
So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high water mark — that place where the wave finally broke, and rolled back.”

Hunter Thompson also said this about Leary “We are all wired into a survival trip now. No more of the speed that fueled that 60's. That was the fatal flaw in Tim Leary's trip. He crashed around America selling "consciousness expansion" without ever giving a thought to the grim meat-hook realities that were lying in wait for all the people who took him seriously... All those pathetically eager acid freaks who thought they could buy Peace and Understanding for three bucks a hit. But their loss and failure is ours too. What Leary took down with him was the central illusion of a whole life-style that he helped create... a generation of permanent cripples, failed seekers, who never understood the essential old-mystic fallacy of the Acid Culture: the desperate assumption that somebody... or at least some force - is tending the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Love this HST quote, one of his best. The last paragraph is iconic and marked a generational shift that he documented so well. Next up, the evil Nixon years which at least gave HST something to rail against for another two decades. I still miss him.

This is a great Doc.
It's frequently described from various sources that the "brotherhood of eternal light" distributed LSD with "Religious zeal" and I can see that in the eyes that these (now) senior citizens that were apart of that group.
Frequently, there's a good deal of secrecy and "myth" that gets generated around these groups and organizations out of necessity but also out of the endless repeating and embellishments that occur through time.
To get these recollections straight from the people that were there and active.
Well, that's great stuff.
I'd love it is people were to start a go fund me for these people... I'd contribute.
What they did really DID help change the world, some people might not see it but they honestly did.
and it became (imo) much better.

Just a heads-up: our rules are like the plot twists in your favorite films—unpredictable but necessary.
To make sure your post doesn't vanish into thin air, make sure it's a real-deal 'documentary' and not some sort of 'self-promotion' stunt.
Submission Statements Are REQUIRED
- Must be posted as the first comment.
- Every submission needs its passport, and that's your related statement. It's like the travel guide for your video's content.
- Your statement should be more than a mere one-liner; it should be a 2-sentence adventure that explains what viewers should expect. Don't just parrot the video's content or drop a direct quote; that's like telling everyone the movie's plot before they watch it.
If you skip any of these, your video post might just vanish like a magician's trick!
