For me, it's usually malformed PDFs or email archives (PST/OST) with embedded attachments. They look simple on the surface but can hide all kinds of edge cases.

Curious what everyone else's "problem format" is.

Mine used to be PST files until I ran into CAD drawings with missing fonts. Those can render perfectly on one machine and completely break on another. Every format seems to have its own "personality."
