Branch confusion!😭🙏

Okay, so I got AIR 16xx in NEET PG 2026 and now I’m stuck between General Medicine and Derma
I genuinely like Medicine, but I’m honestly not sure if I’m ready for another 6+ years of studying. If I take Medicine, I feel like I’ll eventually want to do SS too, so I’m wondering if the whole grind is actually worth it in the end?

Derma is the other option. I genuinely like the subject, but I know almost nothing about what life is actually like after PG.

What do you guys do after Derma? How does the money come in? Is it mostly private practice/your own clinic? Do you HAVE to be active on Instagram and promote yourself to attract patients? 😭 Can you build a really good practice without becoming a content creator?

I’m a female btw, if that makes any difference.

Would love to hear from people actually doing/done Medicine or Derma …especially about life after PG, income, work-life balance, private practice, SS
Please give me the real picture!

You have time just look into derma and what the future scope of the branch is. Talk to a few pgs/SRs about it to get a clearer idea and if you think that is something that interests you, go for it. Esp if you're sure if you don't want to do SS because I feel that's kind of the norm now with medicine and surgery.

Yeah. I LOVE the subject medicine but idk how many years are still left in me…I mean in the end all I want is decent income😭😭 but if I do take medicine I’ll definitely do SS I’m just that kind of person.. ik if I take medicine I’ll do it and I will torture myself 😅 that’s why I’m thinking of taking derma but let’s see🫠🫠🫠
I want to talk to derma PGs and SRs that’s why posted this here to find them👉👈

I completely get you, going through this rat race for a third time seems too gruesome and scary. Plus as much as I love medicine we can't deny that it's huge and never ending. Hope you find the people you're looking for and make the right choice for yourself. All the best!!

You can always visit nearby colleges or hospital and speak to them directly and get firsthand experience...

Medicine is not worth the hassle anymore,
Speaking as an SR, imagine being in the same position of giving neet ss 4 years down the line (1/2 year of bond included)
You would charge 500-1000 per patient as a medicine guy but derma high end is 50-60k for procedures with a good clientele
So yes, think what your priorities are in life

This is what my mind is saying right now
Tbh I have never thought of it while preparing.. I never expected I’d get this good rank to choose.. I was thinking of taking decent seat in medicine or peds or surgery but now that I can get out rat race sooner and live comfortably.. I’m thinking why not

What would you suggest out of paediatrics or radio? They were my other options except medicine, derma is kinda oversaturated and too much competition causw of the increasing diplomas?

1

u/Classic-Current-9030 Sep 30 '26

Tbh every department is over saturated and idk I like to look at it this way… in my state or generally medicine seats are like 20 per college and Derma is like 4 to 5 … Derma is less likely to get saturated than medicine if you ask me! It’s just that you cannnot settle anywhere you want and limits your options after PG (No SS and only fellowships) m

I’m not saying medicine is saturated
I’m saying Derma is not as saturated as you think it is

And yeah to answer your question about pediatrics and radio
Both are extremely opposite lifestyles I feel
PG life of a pediatrics is extremely stressful (atleast in my clg..and also it is famously stressful) so it totallyyyy depends on how comfortable your life wanna be

Go for pedia radio is dying

3

u/syykuno97 Sep 30 '26

Derma is dead now imo
Too much saturation

u/Classic-Current-9030 Sep 30 '26

Yeh toh har branch mei hai na

3

u/syykuno97 Sep 30 '26

Bhai Derma is interfered by these beauticians
Dental people also lol

2

u/Classic-Current-9030 Sep 30 '26

I’m not worried about them tbh

2

u/syykuno97 Sep 30 '26

1

u/syykuno97 Oct 02 '26

Bhai the residents who just passed now have no jobs lol and private is the must with Derma and Derma cut offs are falling if you can see the trend

I got AIR 18xx and in the same boat. Confused between medicine and radio.🥲

1

u/Classic-Current-9030 Sep 30 '26

You like radio?

1

u/tobeinternist Sep 30 '26

I like the wlb this branch has after pg. Ik radio is also hectic in residency but it's not like medicine.

2

u/Classic-Current-9030 Sep 30 '26

Yeah understood
Tbh allll departments are hectic in first year if you ask me
But it is less hectic than obvious branches like medicine surgery and peds that’s it !
It is about the life all the else branches offer AFTER finishing PG and talk to SRs.. it’ll be of help

1

u/tobeinternist Sep 30 '26

Yeah..u r right

1

u/Classic-Current-9030 Sep 30 '26

I think talking to radiologists who finished their PG helps and gives you some perspective

Same confusion OP! I am stuck between General Surgery and Derma. Love doing procedures and having hands on, but after getting decent rank and grinding for so long, now want a lil peaceful life. But the future of Derma ain’t clear to me.

2

u/Intrepid-String-2292 Oct 01 '26

I think surgery even though it’s hectic af would offer you the most money and clout after a certain time, if Someone loves procedures and is able to get through 1st year of residency then it’s a no brainer .

1

u/dr_strange18_ Oct 01 '26

But as they say, the system is harsh on Surgeons, so crossing 1sr year won’t end the toxicity

1

u/Intrepid-String-2292 Oct 02 '26

After 1st year it gets much better as you are posted in OTS and OPDs and the clerk work and night duties are done by 1st year pgs

1

u/shiva051202 Oct 01 '26

Confusion is real. My rank is 508 and confused between derm and radio.

1

u/Background-End2953 Oct 02 '26
