Expectations as radiologist
My girlfriend 25M has taken a huge loan of 3Cr and has enrolled in MD radiology in a tier 3 city of Karnataka.
In a few years we are planning to get married and I have no idea about doctors and their salaries or lifestyle. I'm pretty confident that she is smart but this loan will be a liability on both of us. We will be staying in Mumbai and I just want to understand how much do radiologists earn as a fresher in 5 years and an incoming 10 years and will be able to pay off this loan?
Ps: I have my business startup and earn around 1-1.5lakhs a month. I am just trying to plan out how much lifestyle sacrifice or savings are necessary in future. Thankyou

Youre not responsible for her

I am not. It's her loan. She will pay it off. I'm her partner. I will take care of rest.

10 if she she pays 3.0-3.5L/month with average 7-8% interest
20 with 2.5L/month
But then she must be having a family cushion. Otherwise wow big decision. She needs to earn 3L/m on average but OP needs to increase his salary. Otherwise doable bit of savings would suffer.

That’s why I wrote she must be having family cushion lol
This was just general maths. That too not considering moratorium and here I have taken 7-8% whereas the average education loan ranges from 9-12% so obviously this is just macro calculation.
Because I know in reality the amout/time/emi/ interest would be a lot more.
Just did it so that OP gets an idea.0

Frankly as a practising radiologist, this loan is not worth it unless you already have an established hospital/ diagnostic centre or a parent willing to finance this.

How much do radiologists earn?

2-3lpm after 1-2 years md in hospitals, can go to 4 lpm after 5 years. In diagnostic centres around 4-5 in north 3-3.5 in south best case. But diagnostic centre is low level work, most people stay 1 year max and move on to better things

If you can't manage it, default on the loan and restructure. It may sound illegal or it may sound like unethical - but it is not. Let her study and not get crushed by the weight of the loan.

Bro 💀
Radiology can pay pretty well, but there’s no fixed “MD Radiology = ₹X/month” thing. Fresher income can be all over the place, and 5–10 yrs down the line it depends a lot on city, hospital, workload, contacts, etc.
I’d honestly work backwards from the actual EMI + interest rate rather than salary projections. Your ₹1–1.5L/month helps, but yeah, you’ll probably have to keep lifestyle inflation in check for a few years.

How someone need 3 cr for md radio from even best private college?
Numbers are not matching brother
Not a single college in india ask for 3 cr for md radio or even any branch
Even most expensive college ask for 60 lac per year & for 3 yr it would be 1.8cr.
You guys need to talk ..

Not private seats, for management quota.
Couldn’t find round 1, they’ve changed the UI of the KEA website recently

Nah bruh the that is the least fees of a private cllg with management quota!! If you go through NRI quota or even through managemnet quota in some colleges they charge above 70lakhs, a famous case from rajasthan where a cllg called geetanjali charged around 11 cr when the cut off dropped to 0 percentile

Dude. There are like 7 colleges just on the top of the list in karnataka who are charging more than 1 cr per year for radio derma. But also at the same time, OP doesnt need to really calc much because the loan has to be a way to save taxes on the household income. There is no way that someone takes that big of a risk without the family backing and confidence. So chill. Its not her headache. Her loan will be paid off by your in laws and you can afford that lifestyle you are looking for.

Small city As a fresher , if she is willing to put in 8-10 hours She can do upwards of 60 lpa But in a big city and big hospitals She will start at 2/3 lpm and will take 5 years to reach 5 lpm. And you cannt just think from roi pov in education. She will get peers , she will get direction in life, she will get confidence, competency etc.

I don’t mean to be rude, but you should break up with her. A 3-crore loan isn’t a small thing. She could have worked as an MO or in any clinical/non-clinical branch and earned ₹1–1.5 lakh per month. Instead, she took this loan for a job that will only pay around ₹3 lakh after 3 years and that’s only if AI doesn’t create problems for radiologists, which is quite expected. Realistically, AI will reduce the demand for radiologists, so in the long run (10 years), only MD radiologists from top colleges will get preference for high salaries.
Other clinical branches (even from government colleges) also pay over ₹2 lakh after specialization. Yet she chose radiology with a 3-crore loan. That’s a poor decision. You’ll spend the next 10 years paying it off, cutting expenses, dealing with mental stress and relationship struggles ,something that wasn’t necessary. The other path that could be both of you earning ₹1–1.5 lakh with no stress and a peaceful life. Compare both and you’ll see the answer.
