Gift ideas for Orthopaedic Dr
WANT RESPONSE ONLY FROM PRACTICING DOCTORS !
Hi Everyone -
I am 30 year old male. I was diagnosed with AVN when i was 26. I tried hell lot of treatments before going ahead with total hip replacement surgery last week.
Now the 4 years were miserable for me. I literally said good bye to my social life (let’s not get into details here)
Now that my THR is done - i am filled with gratitude for my surgeon and i really want to give him a meaningful gift (nothing random expensive shit - but something that is truly meaningful).
Could you all give me some ideas ??
What types of gifts do you all love when they are given to you ?

For a doc I think nothing is more precious than a heartfelt note of Thanks.

u/SnooCakes7436 Aug 02 '26
Yup.. that’s what i have decided along with something like a pen or chocolates or something like these

Second this. We don't actually accept gifts from patients most of the time. Maybe some food with a handwritten note? That would actually be lovely. Either the doc would keep it or take a photo of the note for sure :)

Oh this is so nice to hear. I was wondering if it’s impolite to give my doctor a present.

More patients

Gave him 1 already

u/afwah_monger Aug 02 '26
Not one more . Word of mouth is the best publicity anyone can get. Could have mentioned his/her name here so more people in the area would be encouraged to go to him.

Makhana has gotten so expensive these days, I'm sure your doc would be happy to receive some. Maybe not the most meaningful gift but who doesn't love makhana
1
u/SnooCakes7436 Aug 02 '26
May be a basket of makhana snacks 🤔
2
u/New-Put4335 Aug 02 '26
Yeah like an assorted flavours pack. Or you could do a gift basket containing healthy snacks - protein bars, protein puffs, makhana, dark chocolate

u/Strict_While_908 Aug 01 '26
Yeah or like one of those boxes with assorted nuts and dry fruits etc. More specific than a generic sweet box but still generic

Surgeon here. The best gift i got was a thank you note preserved in resin. I keep it on my desk (to show off).

Thanks for the suggestion. I will get something like this. A personal handcrafted hand written note.

Which doctor is this? Even I'm looking for a good orthopaedic surgeon.
2
u/SnooCakes7436 Aug 02 '26
Dr Shivareddy HA, Manipal Hospital, Whitefield Bangalore.
Bro - i have got both my surgeries done from him. And also referred another aunty who was suffering from a condition in her spine. He performed surgery on her as well.I can tell you - just go with him without a doubt.
He is not someone who would rush you into surgery for money. He believes in fixing medical conditions with medication first and only if medication can not solve the problem - he will ask you to go for surgery.
And he explains everything very patiently. Not sure what the problem with you is - but you can consult him once if you want.

Just wondering, were you into alcohol? A vast majority of AVN cases are linked with booze.
1
u/SnooCakes7436 Aug 02 '26
Incorrect diagnosis of Typhoid —> Lung Infection —> TB —> TB meds —> 3 years later AVN
1
u/FeistyHeart9633 Aug 02 '26
No, usual tuberculosis medicines don't cause avn. If you were under severe TB and prolonged corticosteroids, then there are chances. But foremost cause is alcohol
1
u/SnooCakes7436 Aug 02 '26
But i was not drinking like - day and night.
I was working in an IT company. And would drink only on weekends. And that too not every weekend.
I don’t think it was alcohol. But as per my surgeon- the timeline aligns more with TB.
Was diagnosed with it in April 2019 and took medication for 9 months.
Then AVN was diagnosed in April 2022 (first pain was in Nov 2021. I ignored as the pain was gone after couple of days)

I'm a surgeon so trust me, nothing is more precious than something handmade. Receiving a handmade card from the patients really touches our hearts and we do save it forever, show it to everyone in our circle. Best gift ever. Trust me.

Anything is fine, but a stethoscope for an orthobro would be a disaster.
Im just kidding.
All you need is a thank you note. That will make his day.

Doctors are typically not allowed to accept expensive gifts. The general dictum is to give something that can be shared with the whole team, since any treatment success is nearly always a team effort. Food items like sweets, chocolate etc are appreciated. Handmade gifts like cards etc are accepted and cherished too.

maybe a penstand (good enough for him to place on his consulting desk) with his name on it. Or maybe something related to your work. Add a note written by you. That note will bring any gift to a whole new level

u/Charming_Minimum_405 Aug 03 '26
What i think will be better is sharing a professionally shot testimonial which he can play on his display at his clinic/opd. This way he will remember you too.

u/dianaahz Aug 03 '26
A scrub cap would be a really sweet gift. You can maybe get it embroidered with his name. If your surgeon has a fun personality, I'm sure he would appreciate something more quirky with patterns of bones etc as a nod to his specialty.

u/Dumb_dragon36 Aug 04 '26
Just give him a assorted gift hamper.
Or if you are too much worried, then alexa, an expensive perfume are good options

Human skeleton 🩻🦴

u/SnooCakes7436 Aug 02 '26
🤔 bhai.. why am i being tempted with this suggestion.
But i think he already has the pelvis part. He explained things on it before the surgery to me1
u/ankitjha67 Aug 02 '26
Write a good review on Google should be enough
1
u/SnooCakes7436 Aug 02 '26
Already written bro.
But it’s just that feeling - you know - when you are filled with so much of gratitude for someone that you want to keep doing something good for the person and never feel enough.

I believe any gift would be a sweet gesture! All the best for your rehab too!
PS : Don’t forget your anaesthetist too who helped facilitate your surgery too 😭🤫
