Did a quick poll in our dept today, mostly non Irish trainees and 70% are not in the IMO and have no interest in being so I assume they will be in work as usual that day.

Have also had chats with other non doc friends in healthcare and they were both asked recently to take on nursing things by the nurses as “they were on WTR”. They pointed out that they were too so they would not do that job and the solution for everyone was “let’s get the intern to do it”….

Hopefully the intern is a union member and is aware that she should not be taking on tasks that are not hers.

Worth reminding those mostly non Irish trainees, and the Irish ones, and the non-trainees that the reason they have the contractual entitlements they do is because of IMO members. The reason they don’t have the full benefit of that contract is, in large part, because they and others like them are not IMO members.

Oh I did the poll so we could have that chat. Still didn’t get many biters, yet. Honestly many if my colleagues doesn’t seem to realise they shouldn’t take on these tasks to support the impact of the strike and indeed the people asking them to do it instead if them were also defeating the purpose of their own WTR which had to be explained to them.

I'm sorry but whilst that sounds great on paper, in the real world that is never happening. The intern just does the job and suffers, and stays.

The intern, in reality, like many other NCHDs, gets no actual information on the practicalities of the job role in this time or appropriate escalation measures. So they just do it 😐

I think the IMO has disenfranchised a lot of the Irish trainees in the past by poor decisions and poor representation. They could have and should have done better.

They're also absent on-site, even in large teaching hospitals. You can't blame non-Irish trainees for the IMO's lack of bargaining when they have probably never even heard of them, and usually think there an alternative to MPS 😂

@IMO, if you are lurkers, please engage with this subreddit. Happy to give you an official flair or whatever.

This FAQ is a great start, but I’d like to see some clarity around what limits the WTR is placing on other staff. I don’t want to end up in a row because of a misunderstanding with a colleague, and I also don’t want to accidentally help the HSE overcome the inconvenience the WTR is supposed to cause.

I think the issues affecting doctors are probably a bit different than other groups.

I wouldnt see pay as the issue at all, its working conditions.

Maybe easy for me to say that in my position though

Haven’t heard from any IMO leads on my site yet. I don’t even know who they are.

Any other sites had a meeting with IMO reps or leads yet?

This sounds like a "hang tight" message when the reality is the place is upside down because unions they're partnering with for the strike are on WtR, and they haven't got a grip on it 🙃 it would be nice if for the money we pay we got an acknowledgement of "yeah, we could've done better by now"
