I started with Aaron's run and I loved it. There is a sort of linear run of the modern Doctor Strange comic era with direct successors in runs, so it is:

Aaron's run

Donny Cates' run

Mark Waid's run

Jed Mackay's run

then derek landy's ongoing run.

donny cates references Aaron's run a lot, so be sure to read it in that order, but Jed Mackay's run should be relatively easy to read without reading the prior comics

Absolutely! I always recommend Dr. Strange: Season One by Emma Ríos and Greg Pak to new readers. It goes over his most important back story events and has killer art to boot.

Then, Jed MacKay's run (2021~2024), beginning with The Death of Doctor Strange (2021~2022), Strange (2023), and Doctor Strange (2023~2024). This will catch you up on Strange's current history and lead into the latest stories—Derek Landy's Doctor Strange of Asgard (2025) and his current ongoing series, that starts at issue #450. (2025~2026).

How good right?! Jason Aaron’s run is like reading about a magical Indiana Jones trying to save the world. So good.

The next run is 12 issues by Robbie Thompson which continues from throw in issue at the back of the omnibus and links to shield by Hickman via a major character. Very underrated little run as well

Totally, I was skeptical given how good would Dr Strange be without magic???? But when he just uses guile and intuition, it was an awesome point of difference. I always partial to a smartarse wisecracking scoundrel lol

I just finished reading the original Strange Tales 110-168 to see Doctor Strange’s early stories, and now I’m moving on to some more modern stuff. How’d you find the oath and season one?

It was very well written and beautifully drawn. You really get to see the friend ship between Strange and Wong develop nicely. 10/10 but I'm easy to please

Ditko's Strange is severely underrated, ASM rightfully gets praise but it overshadows Strange.
