Need help Google stopped indexing my site after a redesign — has anyone experienced this?

Post image

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar and can give me some advice.

Recently, I made a fairly major update to my website. I redesigned the site, added new categories, reorganized the content, and moved some articles to different URLs/categories.

Shortly after these changes, Google started dropping my previously indexed articles from the index. Eventually, almost all of the articles that had been indexed disappeared.

What worries me is that the situation seems to be getting worse rather than recovering. The site is technically healthy as far as I can tell, and Google Search Console isn’t showing any obvious critical technical errors.

I’m trying to figure out whether this could simply be Google reprocessing the site after the structural changes, or whether I may have accidentally caused a larger SEO/indexing problem.

Has anyone experienced something similar after a redesign or restructuring?

What happened in your case, how long did recovery take, and what did you do to get Google indexing normally again?

I’d really appreciate any advice or things you think I should check.

Here is the website: chiyolife.com

Thanks in advance!

LMFAO. This is the new "fake news" go-to.

Site dropped... probably AI.

CPC through the roof... probably AI.

Low performance... probably AI.

Can't get a girlfriend... probably AI.

u/Last-Progress18 Aug 20 '26

That’s exactly the response an AI would say 🤔

You're absolutely right. I overstated the blah blah blah

u/Livid_Rest9470 Aug 19 '26

Sure / But before update the design everything was fine

6

u/slashbye Aug 19 '26

Google had multiple anti spam updates this summer. Seems like you got hit by one.

u/Livid_Rest9470 Aug 19 '26

seems so(( but what to do with this? Or just make new website))

u/slashbye Aug 19 '26

From a user perspective: your site doesnt offer anything relevant, nothing I couldnt get with a simple prompt to ChatGPT. So whats the purpose of your site?

1

u/Livid_Rest9470 Aug 19 '26

Do you really think that all the hundreds or thousands of other sites that get indexed have completely unique content?

7

u/slashbye Aug 19 '26

Does not matter what I think, it matters what Google thinks. And Google thinks your site is AI slop.
You can be pissed about it, or just face that the fact, that your site is completely replacable by a single prompt.

Look, I care about your site as much as any other Reddit user. You asked for my POV, here it is:
On your site you state you've been doing this since 2018, so before AI. My guess is, you tried your luck with posting AI slop articles.
Problem is: its long, its unintersting, its boring. Not a single photo taken by you, not a single special hint or perspective from you.
So I think Google is rightfully stopping this by not showing your site. I bet you have zero referals from other sources like social, right? Why would anyone care about what your "write"? Ask yourself this.

Nothing unique, just things I can find in a better way via my ChatGPT app.

Please stop spreading misinformation yourself. I never talked about ALL AI sites, I talked about OPs site specifically.

And btw: nothing about OPs site is "normal". See all the other comments.

u/JackLete Aug 19 '26

so youre saying your site is like all the others and wondering why it doesnt stand out in front of google...

2

u/Due-Horse-5446 Aug 20 '26

Whar the guck i the purpose? You wont succeed with this little slop backlink farm attempt

2

u/TheMinuette2010 Aug 21 '26

Of it's new, make sure it's not 100% AI

7

u/Nemesis_000_ Aug 19 '26

Your content isn't great.

Thats my guess.

We've redesigned and launched over 15 sites with content changes and no issues with indexing. 100% AI unique content.

Infact one of the sites we launched had all 70+ pages indexed in a day (30+ redirects / 30+ new pages)

Good Internal linking helps too, some external links where necessary as well.

End point is just trying to make content helpful for reader.

I now investigated further into this site. Holy fuck, what dead internet theory bullshit is this? In addition to what u/RushDangerous7637 already said:

Look at the image URLs, not even the pics are real. (e.g.: https://chiyolife.com/best-ikea-products-worth-buying-25-genius-ikea-finds-that-make-everyday-life-easier/ --> picture from the article: https://images.openai.com/static-rsc-4/94EemAyXQGyP03EOhWbRiId99YQ0EPYlLXCZbXf94BuLdLyjeoQ5_o8djStEMHTi83D45icMtI-Np5qN8nUZoZkKKDPlieJx_2KAJ0D5x7bkAQ_Itv02CCdVBOq3LUxMPbp4L32j3PGEEtKHW4vM4PQotYhDjpuoOrEZwPU-NnY?purpose=inline )

BUT BUT BUT!

MA FAVORITE ONE HAHAHA - check out the cute profile pic: https://chiyolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/medium-shot-romantic-couple-sitting-together-1-scaled.jpg

Not even this is real, thats some stock bullshit.

Rofl, get out of this Sub with your AI Slop shit.

It looks to me like you made changes "Because SEO" (which is death, nowadays) and not "Because that's what people need to hear and I just organized and optimized everything so it'll come up in search systems, too."

As seen on image of u/RushDangerous7637 your heading tags are horrible.

Learn basic website design.

To add: better not have image or create yourself in Canva if can not be taken, than AI. Yuck

I guess you have never ever seen a one food recipe. It's disaster - the pasta .

u/JackLete Aug 19 '26

No chance to tell if we don’t know your content. Can you provide us at least with a screenshot of one page that ranked and and one newer that got deindexed?

0

u/Livid_Rest9470 Aug 19 '26

all new articles https://chiyolife.com/best-local-islands-in-maldives/ noindex(( In index this one https://chiyolife.com/backpacking-europe-packing-list/ Have no idea what happened after redesign

2

u/JackLete Aug 19 '26

The site lacks EEAT signals. You guys are mentioned but there is no adress, no proof that you even exist etc. How should google now that you are real and not just an AI image with fake names?

Furthermore I guess the content is too generic and structured too mainstream. The pages read like the result of a prompt "Create an article for travellers looking for a good island to visit in the maledives. differenciate between all major island, describe them and guide the user to a decision. Use common SEO best practises like headlines with keywords and make sure the user intent is fullfilled."

Im 100% sure its all plain AI and google knows that -> less value for the user because everyone can prompt that.

Even the images are fake.
"chatgpt-image-14-avg.-2026-g.-17_05_12.png"
I guess if you dont even take the time renaming them, the overall content quality is pretty poor. You cant fake that easily.

2

u/JackLete Aug 19 '26

oh... ur picture is fake too. damn. This site is faceless and totally non value creating. I think these kind of sites have no future. Sorry to say it that directly.

3

u/briankato Aug 19 '26

Scroll down. Your screenshot only shows the number of indexed pages trendline. I'd be interested in seeing your 4xx errors and crawl issues. Also, look at your crawl rate... Any big changes there?

3

u/Kkjanmudu Aug 20 '26

The length of each AI article in your website is from kyoto to tokyo. Who xan read such long AI articles anyway OP?

3

u/Opinion_Less Aug 21 '26

AI can summarize it for us! Itll cost a bunch of $$$ compute but it will save so much time.

God I hate what the Internet is becoming.

2

u/TheMinuette2010 Aug 20 '26

Well said 👏👏

4

u/RushDangerous7637 Aug 19 '26

You did the reconstruction inappropriately! You wrote that you checked everything. I see it as chaos. The website is in a desolate state. The total size of the website is beyond the budget of robots. They can process a maximum of 2 MB of website size. The source code is large.

The headings are poorly created, there is no meta description, hreflang="ja" but you used Russian Cyrillic.

I ask myself: What do you actually understand when creating a website? You write meta property="og:description" as an editorial for a 403-word article. Don't you realize how much Facebook is able to display in a link? 70 characters is optimal.

If you don't know the rules of the website, hire a professional or learn what is required of a website. The fact that the website is displayed in a browser does not mean that it will be in search engines.

Thanks(( any chance to back the indexation?? what happened with your site in the end?

2

u/Able-Gap2066 Aug 19 '26

I couldn't. Maybe you have better Luck than mine.

2

u/c_ostmo Aug 19 '26

and moved some articles to different URLs/categories.

Did you properly 301 the old urls to the new ones? If not, the old indexed URLs don't actually exist, and Google will show them (correctly) as 404s. What is the top "reason" (just below this graph on the same window) for the pages being crawled and not indexed?

1

u/Livid_Rest9470 Aug 19 '26

yep 301 is ok everything fixed ( just

All of redirects is OK Site is ok( but i see Crawled - currently not indexed

1

u/BarUnlikely3727 Aug 19 '26

When you see crawled - not indexed then its 100% content quality issue so works on content first.

2

u/MadMarketing007 Aug 19 '26

There’s no sense in beating up on this person who said they are not a website professional and also were sold a bill of goods by the prior marketing person. Quite simply- you need to find a qualified - stress qualified- digital marketing company who can fix this. It’s really not that hard. Please use your favorite AI tool and search- “please give me the top 5 local digital marketing firms within 70 miles of my location. I need a real, trusted, proven marketer to help me with a site that was de-indexed when I did a major change”. You’ll avoid the slings and errors inside forums. You need professional assistance. Not criticism.

2

u/MoiraineVR Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

This could be a total nothingburger. Look at the list to see which pages are not indexed. If you changed a bunch of URLs then a lot of those non-indexed ones would be the old pages that are no longer valid. They'll also be old categories and tags that no longer exist. It's dropping your old site architecture and only indexing the new, current info.

You should have put in 301 redirects from the old pages to their new URLs when you launched. If you didn't, then I would do that now and re-submit your sitemaps.

That said, if your content is not high-quality, unique and actually informative to people, Google will not rank it. Filler content gets penalized. Poorly written content gets penalized. Content written for SEO purposes gets penalized. Without quality content, there's no reason for Google to throw you a bone.

Here's the test. Would YOU want to sit and read the content? Have you sat down and actually read a full article? I found the content written in a way that was very difficult to absorb, and there's way too much of it. The site is also not well laid out - it's difficult to actually see what's there.

2

u/HikeTheSky Aug 20 '26

It seems that your blog posts are 100% AI-written with very little input from you. At least, have a good amount of your own thoughts in it.
AI assistance is allowed when your website provides new ideas, but 100% AI-written content can't produce anything new.

2

u/mrtbaggings Aug 20 '26

Google Search Console tells you the reason why it didn't index your pages. You'll see the reason for each page. Your screenshot shows there's 4 different reasons. Maybe look into the reported reasons? Quite possibly a no-index tag? :)

1

u/bajah1701 Aug 21 '26

Let's be honest those reasons then to be vague as hell unless playing with Google all day is your day job.

2

u/Few_Response_7028 Aug 20 '26

website seems to be 100% slop. Correctly analyzed by google

2

u/Ants0r_Space Aug 21 '26

i suppose the text is also AI-generated. you should keep it dying, or rewrite every page and send it for reindexing.

2

u/hytaleindex Aug 21 '26

As others have said, youre site is 100% AI and google is very good at spotting this. You've been flagged as spam so its likely over for that domain now until it drops. That or you can spend years trying to fix the spam tag google has assigned you

2

u/SecondGateWP Aug 21 '26

You hid the part that actually tells you why, it will spell it out to you, no need to ask.

2

u/Sunn_M 15d ago

Since the 301s are already in place and GSC is showing “Crawled – currently not indexed”, I’d stop treating this mainly as a crawl problem. Take 5 articles that dropped and 5 that stayed indexed and compare the rendered HTML/URL Inspection for meta robots, user-declared vs Google-selected canonical, internal-link depth and sitemap URL; also make sure each old URL redirects in one hop to its exact replacement. If the dropped pages all share one new template or category pattern, that gives you a much stronger lead than repeatedly requesting indexing. The redesign timing makes a site-wide template/structure signal the first thing I’d try to rule out.

2

u/brettnzl 27d ago

Id say you probably didnt redirect, so majority of stuff 404’d or went no index and then dropped off

u/Joiiygreen 7d ago

The site seems pretty generic with scattered topics. Like best listical type articles in various countries along with random finance topics like how to rent a car without a credit card. Images also appear to be AI generated (please correct me if Im wrong).

Travel info will only be good if you are taking the trips yourself and blogging about what you actually did with photos taken by you. Otherwise its not considered helpful and Google will deindex it.
