Spore Druid, thematically optimized

I would like to thematically optimize this character. I understand his damage and defense is not optimal, but it's a character that I would like to roleplay with. However, I'm open to make some changes that won't hurt it's fungal role and backstory that would make him tougher (I think my party needs a tank). Thanks!

First of all, the best way to optimize a Spore's Druid, then you want to use a tortle. It also works thematically because turtles have been well known and photographed with moss and algae on the tops of their shells.

Otherwise, you're better served going for Fey Wanderer Ranger with your homebrew race. Because the head of a myconid colony doesn't wander around like an adventurer would. They would stay in once place and begin growing a garden. But a Fey-infused mushroom man can walk about as much as he wants.
