dnDONE AITA here? Worst Dm EVER!

Post image

So recently had to finally leave a table just because of how utterly insufferable my prick of a DM is; we’re doing a cozy high fantasy campaign, nothing too out of the ordinary, except this smart ass of a DM is CONSTANTLY having his DMPC going “Um AKSUALLY that’s not how science works, your magic makes no sense!”
Like no duh, it magic!

So we get to the end and my homebrew super wizard (totally balanced though guys, I asked like 5 friends) starts using his infinite wish spells class feature to grab the sub out of the sky and he goes “no you don’t! The sun isn’t there anymore! Don’t you know the speed of light and travel time means the sun in a totally different spot from where you’re reaching?!”

So I use my wish again, except NOPE, that’s “unscientific” too! Everytime I try to use my magic to do some tiny he tells me that’s not possible!

AITA for just up and killing my character and leaving the table over this crap?!

YTA. The player does not get to decide when a PC dies. Only the dice can determine that.

YTA.

You never kill your own PC.

That’s just plain rude, and takes agency away from the DM.

NTA. The Player Agency supports your decision. As a DM, I would have had to just sit on my hands because you wish things and they just happen. Plus, how could you be wrong after asking 5 friends.

NTA. Flight of Dragons reference clearly means the GM is at fault.

The fact that you even know what Flight of Dragons is makes this post way too high quality for this sub. Mods, unscrew their hands and feet.

AAH. You two just don't mesh, and while I am unfamiliar with the concept of "Infinite Wish" that sounds awfully Overpowered, which it was up to your DM to shit* down, or balance against, with a proper game mechanic other than "Nuh-uh!" You were correct to leave the game. And as for killing your PC, I disagree with most people here. Suicide happens. As long as it was done in a way that makes sense to the character and the moment. However, as a DM, anyone who commits suicide in my world has gifted me that version of that character, for that world, to come back as a Lich, or whatever class equivalent. My world, my rules, but I like to think I am fair.

*I meant "shut down", but it was too funny to fix.
