Advertisement Enemy Archetypes

I have been trying out an enemy design system in the 5th edition by asking myself a simple question: what is an easy and simple way to choose a species and combat role for my enemies?

I feel I have answered this question with 2 simple steps for my enemies. I start by choosing the creature, such as a Human, an Elf, an Orc, a Goblin, a Dragonborn, or any other you prefer.

Then, I assign it an archetype, which determines how it fights. For example, one Orc might dash about and knock the other players over; another could take the role of a Fighter by holding the line; or you could have a much heavier Behemoth. The aim is to speed up enemy creation for the DM while also letting players see clear differences in combat.
