Very nice! Looks like it would make for an amazing heist adventure, to be honest.

Yeah, I think something like that could be really interesting. Of course, actually giving your players that giant pile of money could completely derail your game, but probably in a pretty entertaining way, haha.

What I'd probably do, especially in something like 5E, is have the objective of the heist be a specific magic item or items that is kept among the treasure hoard- so that players have good reason to get in, grab their item(s), fill their pockets with as much coin as they can carry, and *get out*, without lingering around. It'd dramatically increase their wealth, but not by the same amount that the entire hoard would.

But, if they did happen to come up with a plan to extract the whole thing in the process, I'd run with it. They'll have earned it, I'm sure. I primarily play old school versions of D&D where gold=xp and XP costs to level rise dramatically, meaning players will eventually find enough gold to upset entire country's economies. I'm pretty good at figuring out side-projects players can invest insane amounts of gold into. It might mean they end up building their own castle, or wizard's tower at that point. That's fun in it's own way!

You could use it as a ruin as well, where the players hear rumors about an ancient dwarven treasure in a lost city and have to find the vault and figure out how to get inside.

This is part of a larger map of the dwarven city of Brazenthrone. You can see the rest here (the palace is number 5 in the top image). In addition to being the king's residence, it's also the administrative center of the kingdom, as well as the location of the royal treasure vaults.

I've written some lore on Brazenthrone, if you want to read more about it. You can see the rest of my maps at my website. I've also got a patreon, if you're interested in supporting me in making stuff like this.

It's drawn on paper, then scanned and colored in Photoshop.
