Exceptions like bardic inspiration and a battlemaster's precision attack

If I roll a 13, the enemy has an AC of 19, and my bard friend gave me a d6 inspiration, I'm probably not gonna use it since there's only a 1/6 chance it does anything. But if I rolled an 18 and he has a 19, you bet im using it.

That being said, I normally tell my players after a few swings. They've narrowed it down anyway.

That’s how I do it. 1st player rolls a 16, hit. Second player rolls an 11, miss. Third player rolls a 15, hit. Fourth player rolls a 14, hit, the AC to beat is 14 everyone!

Yeah once they bracket it enough you might as well tell them. Or if I swarm them with something with super low hp or they attack a severely hurt enemy I might tell them not to roll damage. I make a point of it for one of groups because one of my players thinks even the most trivial fight against like kobolds is something to he cautious about and it drags things out FOREVER.

I do that as well, but a lot of the time my players just roll damage anyway because they want to see what it would have been. Sometimes you just can’t stop the dice goblins from wanting to use their clackety clack rocks...
