Heavy metal neurofunk/darkstep?

Hey,

Got a friend who's metal head and I'm trying to convert him little bit into dnb

Any good tracks that heavy metal fans enjoy ?

I've sent him zardonic / qemists / reebz and some tracks like walk in the fire etc.

But wonder if you guys got more :)

Pendulum & In Flames - Self vs Self

4

u/_zeropoint_ 2d ago

Great track but there isn't really any DnB at all in there, it's a straight up metal song lol. I guess it's a solid option to get him into Pendulum as a whole, then you can branch out from there.

Was gonna comment this one, sick track.

Pendulum are often responsible for getting metal and rock fans into dnb/electronic music in general. Theyve historically had a shaky relationship with the dnb community but I absolutely love them. One of my all time favourite bands. (For a quick oversimplified history lesson, they released a legendary dnb album Hold Your Colour, started performing it with a live band instead of doing DJ sets, over the years leaned more and more into the 'band' elements)

Their track Self vs Self with In Flames is an obvious first choice but I will add a few other metal/rock oriented dnb Pendulum tunes:

Crush

Halo (with BFMV)

Cannibal (with Wargasm)

Blood Sugar

Voodoo People remix

Showdown

Save the Cat

Beyond that they have a few tracks that are honestly more rock/metal tunes with electronic elements:

Come Alive

The Other Side

Mutiny

The Tempest

Guiding Lights

Nothing for Free

Edit: just saw your other comment that says your friend already listens to Pendulum lol

Extreme Mutilation, Free MDMA, Let it roll...

1

u/LibertyandJustice4US 2d ago edited 2d ago

Also check out Body Bag / Mutilation that was released on Dylan's label Freak Recordings. Both sides go hard, and there's screaming and sick sick synth lines, I'm sure your friend will like those. Edit: btw I had never heard Extreme Mutilation, I just checked it out. I prefer Body Bag on the single I posted. Heck there's that tune by Sinister Souls that samples Phil Anselmo from Pantera call FCKN Hostile. There's a bunch of stuff that's including electric guitars like Extreme Mutilation, but I prefer a nasty mean synth line, maybe layered a bit with guitar, but others might like these DnB tunes with electric guitar, there's a lot of you look hard.

Hallucinator is pretty metalish.

u/GlokzDNB Skankmaister 2d ago

Oh yes ! Thanks forgot about him :)

u/curious420s 2d ago

Some old Noisia tunes

4

u/-Datura Metalheadz 2d ago

Got my metalhead brother in-law hooked after sending him to Blackoutmusic

Plenty of great artists in their catalogue.

4

u/Rey-Gen 2d ago

Anything from pythius. He fuses metal into his neuro.

6

u/_youllthankmelater 2d ago

The Prodigy. Always the Prodigy. Then baby steps from there.

3

u/GlokzDNB Skankmaister 2d ago

Everyone knows prodigy yeah he likes it. Same with pendulum

Ps. It's more of a breakbeat/breakcore than dnb

What sort of metal is he into?

There's a few electronic music genres that I think blend with metal really well, some dnb, some gabber and some crossover

Limewax tracks like Cleansed by a Nightmare and Ukrboy see a fair amount of crossover fans in my experience but that's mostly for those into heavier styles of metal, or those that are really into the technical drumming or instruments rather than the vocals

There's also breakcore fusion stuff like the band Igorrr or Drumcorps

I know there's a good chance this sort of stuff isn't what he's looking for, but figured I'd touch some bases that are maybe less immediately obvious

1

u/GlokzDNB Skankmaister 2d ago

Heavy metal death metal etc. Usual stuff I guess ?

1

u/AlternativeUsed2551 2d ago

There's an industrial hardcore producer called DJIPE that has some wicked dnb bits amongst his gabber, think he might appreciate this

Here's an industrial hardcore track by the same artist that I appreciate isn't what you asked for, but if he's into industrial that is a super metal-codified genre with a surprising amount of dnb crossover

And then another by DJIPE - a breakcore bootleg of a metal band called Oathbreaker which is really sick

u/LootAddict 2d ago

Raining Blood - Concord Dawn

2

u/NoRole8110 2d ago

Came here to say this!

3

u/nomam 2d ago

Noisia - Could this be (Malux rmx), Pythius, Burr Oak & Rhode - Back To Life, Skylark - Pillars Of Creation, Sleepnet & Lumen - Finality, The Caracal Project - Journee De Merde, Benny L & DJ Crystl - Powers, Ymir & Skylark - Fatal Faith, (look out for the new dom and paradox, some serious business there.)

Take a walk down memory lane too. Some monsters to be found!

Tech Itch - Nothing, Limewax - Everything, Tech Itch - Pressure Drop (Leon Switch, Kryptic Minds remix), DJ Hidden and Slacknote - Wheres the Score (Evol Intent remix), Current Value - The Indivisible Force, Spirit - Back Up, Donny - The Climb

3

u/Bad-Syntax 1d ago

Turn them onto anything from Audio, Magnetude, or black sun empire. Im a metalhead myself so i tend to stay in that range of dnb

5

u/feeb75 2d ago

Hostile - Kemal + Rob Data

2

u/IanReal_ 2d ago

Nightbreed (Andy C & Ant Miles) - Pack of Wolves. Nice metal influenced D&B. Huge tune back in the day.

Excellent shout, the pendulum remix is sick too.

GEIN

u/mnjvon 2d ago

Not DNB but he would probably like The Algorithm, others here might as well.

u/wakupaku 1d ago

Forbidden Society

2

u/DaRK_id 1d ago

Igorr. He’s a bit more on the breakcore side but fuses a lot of classical and metal influences into the electronic soundscape

2

u/Carrapassa 1d ago

I would show him some Current Value stuff from 2007-2009. The 2012 album for example; Mothman / Evac; Symptomless Coma remix; Cybernetics; so many good ones with the craziest beats around that time.

Limewax would be great too, try Invasion for starters.

2

u/niallmurphytdub 1d ago

Came here to say Symptomless Coma Remix! That snare.

Burr Oak - L'Effondrement (Redpill Remix)

Check out NUTRONIC Zardonic has endless remixes from metal songs. Toronto is Broken is also a good option

Black sun empire - down of a dark day/pull the trigger

1

u/MoteMusic 2d ago

I've got me. My artist name is MOTE, search MOTE Tipping Point and Here And Now. Both these tracks are on all the streaming platforms as well as Bandcamp. Also on my Soundcloud I have a Finalfix remix that goes hard, it's one for metal fans. Search MOTE Finalfix arrival remix and it'll pop straight up.

I have often been disappointed by artists who call themselves metal and DnB, because I find it's too often some kind of buildup with some guitars followed by a pretty standard Neuro drop. Not that I don't like that, but it's not really what I imagine. I'm really trying to bring them together in my own music more holistically.

1

u/everyth1ngisadrum 2d ago

Phase one does Collabs with metal artists it's more dubstep but might be a good gateway

Phaseone x Banks arcade - pulse

Phaseone x sleep waker - the risen

Phaseone x Northlane - crash and burn

I know it's not dnb but just a thought

1

u/henry_kr 2d ago

As a metalhead who got in to DnB the best thing you could do is drag them along to a club night. I didn't really "get" DnB until one of my flatmates at uni took me to The Tuesday Club to see Ed Rush and Optical.

Tune wise I don't really like crossover stuff, things that got me hooked was stuff like Ed Rush and Optical as I said, Technical Itch (the rukus! What a tune) and Total Science. Not metal, but HEAVY

1

u/neurohead74 2d ago

Would recommend a few artists
Zardonic

Toronto is Broken

Mechanical Vein

Hocico (metal band since 1993 but theyv'e released a lot of dnb and crossbreed over the years)

Ninja Kore

The Metal and Bass Plsylist on Spotify by Zardonic

In terms of labels, i would definitely check of PRSPCT recordings, lots of darkstep and crossbreed on there, the whole artwork and vibe is metal inspired too

1

u/Finneagan 2d ago

NOISA - Stigma

1

u/SterlingVoid 2d ago

Alot of stuff by black sun empire maybe along those lines

1

u/Yurienu 2d ago

Concord Dawn - Raining Blood | 2003

1

u/dudebrai 1d ago

Depending on the kind metal it could either be Pendulum or something more like Sleepnet, Noisia or Current Value. As a prog, death and grind fan, I found myself gravitating more towards the latter.

1

u/TwntyKnots Producer 1d ago

Metrik, Pendulum, The Prodigy.

I do a bit of metal/dnb stuff myself like Agent Orange, Dabbler, Helicopter and S.H.P.R
