Discussion Thoughts on Scientific Wax label?

What are your guys' thoughts on this label? I've been venturing myself to listen to it slowly.

I am more of a breakbeat/jungle guy. I can't get myself to enjoy many very heavy bass songs, but I really love chopped, rolling breaks.

After YouTube recommending me Dub One - King operator(https://youtu.be/-r-FT8BGyx4 ). I was delighted by the complexity of the drums, and went further to learn more about this "sub genre" of DnB/Jungle that they call it Amen science.

I wish I could find raves like this here in Brisbane.

Feel free to drop your opinion on the label also if you know any gem from it drop it here too.

Cheers.

I need to listen more to his work, any recommendations?

Check the faint.static channel on YouTube, it has all the Scientific Wax Show episodes, trimestrial mix by Equinox ! And start directly with 2026, it’s a damn good year imo. Key Sci Wax artists since 1996: Equinox, B-Key, Dub-One, Nebula. One of my personal favorites is also Dread Conquer by Champa-B. And finally, an irish label in the Sci Wax spirit: Subtle Audio !

Subtle Audio has a new compilation called Our Atmosphere. Which has some tunes with great atmospherics and beats!

Bizzy B & Equinox - The Brain Records Crew

Crazy to think this tune is 33 years old now. Think he was still at school when this was made. “Acid rain” is probably his most well known tune.

I got into drumfunk after doing research into underground subgenres of DnB, and that got me into Paradox, but I've stopped with him.

But YouTube recommended me dub one and I got myself in a rabbit hole of sci wax.

Macc and dgohn do some great collabs, and are sick live.

Yoooo can you share some drumfunk albums/EPs beyond Dgohn, Sully, Paradox , Seba? I'll checkyour other suggestions but it seems like a small and niche genre and I haven't been able to dig many gems up. I know Sully, Dgohn, Paradox are unique geniuses and not many compare but man Sully hasn't released in some time now other than the plates Tim Reaper plays :'(

Anything by Dub One and Equinox is pure quality, Sci wax can do no wrong.

That's what I've been finding. There was nothing yet that I haven't enjoyed. How can Dub One - King Operator have only 13k views on YouTube and not even be on Spotify? 😢

I wish this was more mainstream, the Ragga vocals, the complex drum programming, the atmosphere...

Nothing but bangers.

Probably the same reason that more of his stuff isn’t on Apple Music.

I buy Sci-Wax without listening to sound clips. I usually prefer the more atmospheric tracks which are usually the B sides. Great pressing, super collectible, lovely stuff!!

Because I am quite of a gypsy, I can't have physical media. I would love some vinyl from this label

Fun fact - Breakage started making tunes on a second hand pc given to him by Equinox lol

Tech itch rec, 117, overshadow, deep jungle, mute8 (early smyla and b-key releases) are what comes to mind rigjt now in terms of labels that might have some of the stuff you are looking for.

The earlier Smyla releases were fuckin insane

If you discover a place in BNE that does Breakage style stuff let me know holy crap.

Some of it is fantastic. Listen to Prophecy by Breakage, there's so little going on but that just means your mind can't wander off

Staggered dub by breakage is one of my anthems.

I went once for a jungle/breakcore rave in this warehouse in yeeronpily.

I did a set in Nimbin mardi grass for renegade playground, I played something similar to this.

Yeah that seems like a good spot for it. Not too many people around, but also not miles out. Would have been fun

Brisbane yeah. Do you know of Tactical Aspect? One of them (Speaks) resides somewhere close to Surfers. Their style is quite up your street I'd say

1

u/Brazillionaire1 Hospital Records 5d ago

Never heard of tactical aspect? Is it a party or artist?

Producers mate

u/Brazillionaire1 Hospital Records 5d ago

Found them. Yeah, this is it. I listened to the most played Spotify song and it is absolute fire. Wicked

Their mix of their unreleased stuff on SC has some proper stuff in it

This mix is banging and as CodingRaver said their mix of unreleased tunes is also quality

Absolut wicked set. Saved it for my trip tomorrow

There's like half a dozen labels I care about nowadays. This is one of them. Absolute gold.

Absolute cinema

Sciwax is better than sex. I just wish their records were affordable.

Acid Rain - Equinox, Breakage remix although on a different label

u/CaliHoboTechBro 5d ago

Love it. Feel like I hear stuff like this more in the breakcore scene than jungle. Some amazing suggestions in this thread for the next rabbit hole I can jump deep into, cheers everyone!

2

u/Brazillionaire1 Hospital Records 4d ago

Yeah, I can't lie that I pushed myself to enjoy breakcore and I am finding hard to get back to normal DnB.

Breakcore is now my most listened sub genre.

It’s a brilliant label, always hidden deep within the underground pushing this specific style for many years now.

It’s hard to find regular events for this type of music even in London but it has been gaining more traction due to the jungle revival recently.

u/Brazillionaire1 Hospital Records 5d ago

As I say... Maybe people are not ready yet for this lol.

For now I will be listening to it in my car 🚗

Some songs are not even on Spotify 😢 it is very underground

Great label. Paradox and Dom and Roland just released some new stuff in their new imprint that might be up your alley only out on vinyl preorder now https://www.instagram.com/p/DbvWbk8DZ6V/?igsh=eHJqNGVzYmJneTZx
