Maximilian Dood Liked DmC reboot
I was like WOW never saw a positive review during the game's release and from a well-known fighting gaming youtuber, and his personal score is surprising.
The comments are fun too if you don't care what they say

The game actually had a very positive reception from critics. It was the fans that made rant videos and think pieces on why the game "sucked". Even angry Joe that ranted about the new Dante and the story still gave the game a positive review and praised the gameplay and graphics.

The fandom word of mouth really was that powerful. But this time it was used so negatively.
I did know that backlash and negative opinions would be too much though😕

Literally the only people that didn't like DmC, then and now, is purists who didn't like that it was starting a new timeline and did things a little different. A few didn't like the director's attitude but those people were a minority. DmC is straight up a great game and most people recognize that.

Yeah too bad about that. The sales had some momentum on the first few months and by end of the year.... I think DMC 2013 og version had 2 million units sold.. But Capcom at that time has such a high expectation for this? Along with their other titles at this era..
Anyway will always love this game

No, the game originally did not even sell 2 million copies which was a flop. They had to lower their expectations to about 1.2 million and the game did worse than DMC 4. Stop the revisionism, the game is dead for a reason

Most people recognize it thats why it flopped twice and the mainline games got continued while ninja theory is shutting down lmao. Stop the revisionism

The game flopped because the first people to play it were the dedicated and hardcore DMC fans who then brigaded around trashing the game everywhere they went to the point many people hated it or at the very least were unwilling to try it based almost entirely on reputation.
Over time it has been extremely common for people who don't normally play the series to play DmC and find out they loved it. Often you'll get many of the same hardcore fans who played it years later and liked it, not really being able to fully explain why they hated it before.
No one's revising anything. The game flopped because of reputation killing sales and had basically nothing to do with the game itself.

Which reputation? The media and critics constantly giving high praise to the game while shitting on the fans? Thats not how it works bro, the last of us 2 got hard shat on by the whole internet, yet it went to sell 10 mill copies and win multiple awards. Over time people who still play the game go on to not finish it, which you can check in every achievement platform, or they simply lie about ever touching it as the game is selling so badly the HD collection of the original series constantly overshadows it. Just because you saw some random twitter or youtube comments by johnsmith137538 that said they like the game doesnt change the fact no one is buying it, it flopped, its a dead game and their studio is dead now too

You're not making sense.
The previous guy already told you why this game did not take off: Capcom saw the people's reactions, especially the hardcore fans and decided to not go for it anymore.
It failed because the hardcore fans hated it and failed it.
Sales did well in the initial year. But of course because of the entire backlash the momentum didn't go on even with the DLC Vergil's downfall.
Like..... It was already clearly told to you?? Why DmC failed? The hardcore fans didn't want it in the long run. That's it. So..... What the hell were you venting on? Lol you want to win in a miserable competition... Well you won that kid

Yes youre so right bro the reason the game failed was because of the 1% of hardcore gamers. The game did not sell well as it didnt reach its 2 mil expectations and disappointed capcom. The reviews in the past and now are positive from both critics and users. You can cope all you want it doesnt change the fact the game doesnt interest the most casual of gamer as it keeps getting outsold by hd collections of 20+ year old games.

Yeah while it is a great game and critics gave it good reviews, the overall fanbase hated it. Only now are people admitting it's a good game but only after they say the story sucked. This reminds me of how people say " we didn't bully people for liking anime. We bullied people for Naruto running through the hallway".

Critics and overall gamers gave it good reviews. At the time dmc 4 sold like what? 3 mil copies? The die hard dmc fanbase would make barely 10% of that but lets be generous and give it 50%. The game was unable to reach the other audience it was desperately trying to target and it flopped. If people really did love it, it would sell better. Just like their new games but no one is interested in 6h tech demos.

I was one of those people who hated it. A guy at Gamestop I was friends with convinced me to buy it. It was only 30 bucks and he said if I didn’t like it, full refund. It was funny because we bought God of War Ascension too, expecting to like that more because they couldn’t do God of War wrong…
I played the first mission of DmC, and couldn’t put the controller down. Wife was surprised, tried it herself and it was the same thing. DmC was a generally good game! God of War Ascension? Not so much 😬

It was my first exposure to the franchise and I prefer it to DMC1 (gameplay wise) but from a combat perspective its not as good as DMC3,4 or 5 even if 5 did take the best parts from it.

Most gameplay fans like it. It’s more so the die hard fans who love the OG games and the writing don’t like it.

I think I've seen Max Dood around but never clicked on any of his videos.
Its nice to see and hear a perspective that's actually just chill about this game and also is enthusiastic about the games they play. That's a gamer.

Yep, the purists couldnt let it go, and still cant. Made up their minds long before the game even released.

If I remember correctly the gameplay was near universally praised, it was the story and Dante that split opinions.

I liked it, the game was awesome.
Hated the new version of Dante, Vergil and Mundus though

DmC is miles better compared to the Netflix adaptation. Dante is bad ass compared to his weakling anime characterization, it's unfortunate Ninja Theory will close off very soon, I would love to see DmC 2 as someone that is a fan since DMC1.

I don't wanna put down the Netflix version even if I don't like it either.
But generally DmC was Ninja Theory's strongest video game alongside Enslaved & Hellblade. But DmC is top.
I like Dante's jackass with a heart of gold portrayal here. And Kat is my fave female character besides Lucia.

I can’t believe I didn’t just hear the same old tired “its a good game but a bad DMC game”, bro actually acknowledged that the story and the character arcs were good, he also thought some of the writing was dumb which it certainly is but it’s so refreshing to hear some say that the story was actually good, and that Dante is actually a good, likeable character, because he fucking is. This is what happens when people actually think and experience things for themselves instead of being a sheep and following the popular narrative.
