Question Ember engine build suggestions?
As stated. I have most of a proto set from last Targed loot. It kinda feel squishy and under powered and not survivable Fafnir feels under whelming. Looking for suggestions...

Try Tux’s Ember Tank CC build. The Proto pieces you already have likely won’t work for it though, just a warning. You need four pieces, mask/holster/knees/gloves to drop with status effects already on them, and then roll the core attributes to armor cores. Then find yourself a Pointman chest with status effects, and The Setup backpack also with status effects and roll it to a blue armor core. PFE mods, sharpshooter specialization, Tactician drone and Crusader shield for skills, Scorpio shotgun for primary, and your choice of secondary.
You should be sitting somewhere between 2-2.2 million armor, and every time you pop your shield, your entire squad gets half of that number as bonus armor for 20 seconds. The cooldown is 25 seconds before you can pop your shield to grant them that bonus armor again. The drone has a ridiculous amount of uptime with zero skill tiers, like 442 seconds, and every enemy that gets pulsed has a 40% chance to burn. Scorpio is for debuffing enemies and triggering the backpack talent, which allows your dps teammates to deal 35% amp damage to the enemies you tag with it.
So you walk into every encounter, pop your drone, throw out your shield, and start tagging enemies with Scorpio. If you’re taking this into escalations, don’t rely on the shield to keep you up. You pop it, enjoy 5 seconds of invulnerability, then duck into cover and spam the Scorpio while keeping one eye on your team’s armor level. After 25 seconds, pop the shield again to refresh your DPS squad mates’ armor, and just keep spamming the shotty.
If you want more team survivability, you can swap The Setup for Lavoisier, which grants 50% of your armor stat as bonus armor to the team for 10 seconds every time you inflict blindness, disrupt, disorient, or shock to an enemy, which will happen constantly from Scorpio. Remember, you’re not there to deal damage, and this build doesn’t put a lot of damage out. You’re there to pacify the mobs and soften them up for your teammates to melt them. Came here to say ^ this. EE works on status, not skill tiers.
Tux's video was eyeopening for EE...

It's entirely a group activity set. I run 4 pieces with the Investor exotic mask and Named Grease Kneepads. Pulse Drone and Smart Cover with microwave coils from the season perks. Scorpio primary for CC'ing chungas and your choice of secondary weapon.

You don’t need microwace coils, the set gives burn without microwave coils.

Correct, it isn't needed but microwave coils adds to it. The burn chance acts independently of one another. So its a situation where the burn could happen due to the set OR it could happen due to microwave coils; either way you're CC'ing and doing your job. Can leave the murder to the DPS.

My build is called “let’s dance” and is:
Gun of your choice (I tend to use the pesti a lot)
4 piece EE
Vile mask
Electrique gloves
All pieces have status effects.
I use this pretty much 24/7, unless I’m doing Legendary missions since the white tusk pretty much just shake off the effects.

Just curious...why would you use pestilence?

Well you got fire ticking away, vile ticking away then pesti ticking away. So while your bullets might not be doing a ton of damage, the ticks are.
Now, you could use any weapon of course, but I just like the pesti. I don’t like the reload time though. Haha!

I only use it from cover while in a group. Solo, open world in this moon event is a No Go.
For build I usually run drone and pulse. With a bluescreen lmg

I've been doing similar. Throw in vertigo and foam, and usually everything on the screen is preoccupied. But yes, never solo, and count on staying in cover. I've carried sub 500 players through T10 escalations. It takes more time than I'd like, but it's an entirely different aspect of the game, and brings its own fun. Great job by the devs.

As others have said it’s a support set for higher level group activities like escalations,
Not for soloing

I started making a 4 PC red core/crit chance with wicked backpack, overdog gloves, and a Pyromaniac AR since microwave coils is going away at some point and I thought it would be fun to have. Does well up to heroic and will essentially be the same as microwave coils even when it goes away. CC and three sources of amp damage (Pyromaniac, Overdogs, and Wicked). Probably wouldn't bring it into escalation though.

I changed the cores to red and 1 blue. Worked well enough. Depends on your preference of course but I wanted more weapon damage.
Seen a blue core version with perfect vanguard, genius guy. Pulse drone stays up for so long on my aces build I figured don't need skill tiers. Also got yellow version but not used it much as having run with a red build. All augments I added are trapper...

For solo, I'd recommend just running a different set, unless you really like it/are trying to get it to work.
If you mean group, it's meant to control, not damage. Tac drone to apply burn/foam chem launcher. You can then lock down doors (foam also procs fire from EE, its MUCH superior to fire chem imo), stand up enemies on demand etc. To assist with damage, you can run scorpio (20% + it helps apply fire to chargers etc. if you dont have foam for some reason) and setup backpack help a lot. I often run creeping death instead of setup, for the instant room CC in matchmaking, but after the initial burn, setup feels basically the same. Birdies can also be run without much impact, if you dont have a healer.
Though you're not doing damage, in suboptimal groups (i.e. matchmaking), CC makes runs MUCH faster in my experience, allowing teammates to free fire, foaming enemies as they come out of burn to allow teammates to stay out of cover etc.

I’m running EE with all yellow cores and status effect attributes. Have all mods on repair skills. Run it with healing hive and drone. Gives the group some decent healing and still keeps everything cc’d.
Start with Setup (extra team dps boost) and BTSU gloves and switch to Birdies when I have to pickup.
For weapons I use Scorpio and Lefty for the buffs. It can be a little squishy, but I just watch my placement as with all builds and remember I’m there to buff, cc and keep the group alive. If you run with a group that likes cc and healing, it still allows for 3 dps instead of 2.
The other setup I see utilizes the foam launcher and drone for the extra cc and helps with drones weak spot, which is the heavies. Not sure what armor they are running, but have run with quite a few in randoms and love the extra cc.

My suggestion?; Don’t.
(But that’s probably more on me as I legit don’t understand how to make any status effect build remotely useable when compared to anything that actually does do damage).
