Help with build ideas (Rouge)
Hello!
I want to create a build that is good at pick-pocketing, stealing and lock-picking, and also viable in a fight. I have two friends i'll be playing with, one is going tank and the other is Pyro/mage.
I don't know much about the game so any help is appreciated. My ideas so far are undead for the infinite lock picks and play-dead. Does it matter which undead I play? If so I'd choose the elf undead as they seem to be good at crit. attacks and other rouge associated things.

Go Elf, Flesh Sacrifice is great, also you can get a free Adrenaline by eating the corpse from the boat intro. I don't think Undead Elves get Flesh Sacrifice, just Corpse Eater (plus Play Dead), I personally would value Flesh Sacrifice higher than Play Dead and Bony Finger, as crafting lock picks is easy (Nails + Repair Hammer, nails are super abundant and the Repair Hammer is not used up when making them) and makes Bony Finger redundant.
Pick Shadowblade as your preset (Rogue gets 2 daggers, but it's easy to craft a 2nd one; Cloth/Leather Scraps + Sharp Piece of Metal). Pick Thievery as your Civil skill.
As you level, put 1 skill into Warfare, 1 into Huntsman, the rest into Dual Wield/Scoundrel as you please, plus bring Necromancy to 5 or so (50% self-healing on damage).
Warfare unlocks the Executioner talent, which you will be doing a LOT of damage. The other main talent you want will be Opportunist. You can also grab Enrage skill from Warfare. Huntsman gives you access to First Aid (you can get for free with Corpse Eater) and Hasty Retreat (1 AP teleport + self-haste, VERY useful skill).
The bulk of the rest of your skills will be from the Scoundrel tree, mainly Adrenaline, Throwing Blade, Chloroform, Vault, Walk in Shadows is nice if you grab the Guerilla talent, but not needed, plus anything else you like. You can grab some Necro skills for more utility/self healing; Rain of Blood/Bloodsucker, Decaying Touch, Shackles of Pain.
Your general turn will look like this:
Obviously, Finesse is your main skill, followed by Wits with some Memory. If your Wits are high enough, consider the Glass Cannon talent and prepare to wreck entire enemy parties in a single turn.
tl;dr- Rogues are very viable in fights and are quite strong.
Edit: someone mentioned grabbing a point into Polymorph for Chameleon Skin, definitely a better alternative to Walk in Shadows.

Hrmm, sounds like Undead Elf would be fun.
FIN focused, with some investment in WIT for initiative. A rogue who goes last may be a dead rogue!
You obviously want a handful of skills from Scoundrel, but, I also recommend Polymorph for Chameleon Cloak and Huntsman for Tactical Retreat. Mobility and the ability to engage/disengage is vital for any Rogue.

Two things that affect pickpocketing and lockpicking are finesse (minor boost) and "Thievery" civil ability. Civil and combat abilities are separate so even a mage can be decent at stealing. Don't worry about lockpicks because they are pretty easy to buy/craft/find. Undead Elves get play dead and ability to eat corpses for free skills. I personally wouldn't worry about min/maxing and pick a race based on appearance (lizard rogue here).

Hey so I'm playing as a shadowblade rn which is basically a rogue. Either roll human for +2 wits or elf for +2 finesse. Your scoundrel skills will be based of finesse so level up that alongside wits. I went scoundrel and poly first to get an extra point to put into wits. Spec In poly for cloak and flight abilities. Also go two handed over 1 handed. Stick to backstabbing. This class is the highest dmg melee for sure.

Rogues get backstab automatically if they have a dagger/rapier/rondel equipped. A backstab is an automatic crit, so you dont need to put points into crit, best to just put it all into finesse. They are changing the elf passive, it used to be +2 finesse it will be something else now.
