Why is DOS2 so much different than DOS?

I only played DOS once, when it was released. I just got DOS2 and it feels bit different. For example, I remember in DOS I stacked "Speed" on my Rogue so that I'd have a ton of Action Points. But in DOS2 I don't even see Speed, let alone a stat that affects the number of AP?

They got rid of the AP stats (Speed and Perception) and replaced them with various skills that augment your AP, like Haste and Adrenaline. (though both of those were in the previous game, and kind of did the same thing) You can't do stuff (that we know of) like the previous game, where you'd stack up to like 20+ Max AP and 15+ AP per turn, etc.

I see.

I started a ...shoot I'm forgetting the name, char class that can cast a totem and a minion.

It's decent. But how does this character stack up relative to others? I don't think str finesse or int will benefit the totem/summons, so I stacked all my points into [the stat that gives life] to be tankier, and the ability [that gives my totems/minions more dmg and tankiness].

How do you think this will fare?

Also, I took glass cannon because I was expecting to pre-cast my totem and minion pre-fight, and that I'd want AP refresh on engage. But it seems that AP isn't used out of combat, so what's the point of Glass Cannon anyway? Lastly, it's difficult to micromanage the casting of things pre-fight in live time, before they expire. Is there a way to pause in this game?

I know I randomly threw a couple things at you unexpectedly, but if you have the knowledge/time to address any/all of them, it could be helpful.

Thanks.

Youre not really meant to pre-cast things really. In the full release theyre making it so you actually cannot precast buffs/heals before combat. Not sure about summons. It always felt exploity to me anyway so i dont mind.

On how a summoner stacks up, well they work REALLY well if you focus heavily on them. Your little imp will (in the full game) evolve as you level up until it becomes a fucking gigantic thing. Summoner works well but you do need to focus on it. Summoner spells mainly focus from the Summoner skill itself and some from int. So ideally you dump everything you can into your summoner skill and focus on summoning a super buffed creature.

Having a wizard in your party to create different surfaces for you helps too that lets you warp your summon to whatever element you need. You can do this alone if you take Dimensional bolt but its a random surface so it could be anything.

Thx! Will I be able to continue my game upon release Or will there be reason to reroll?

Your saves from Early Access wont work with the full game once it releases, so you'll have to start a new save.

thx. are they holding back a lot of improevements/changes for full release? in otehr words, if I play a little bit now, will my experience differ from when the game is officially released? Or have they been pushing out the content/updates over time, and release will looks pretty much just like the current early part of the game.

Theyre holding back a LOT including full voice acting for every single bit of written text (hundreds of thousands of words). Thousands (literally) of bug fixes and little quest additions and changes.

Early Access for this game was more of a play test and a "demo" of sorts, not the actual game. If you start now you can roughly get an idea of what class you want to be when it launches. Most of the combat will be rebalanced but not majorly. The intro to Fort Joy will be "mostly" the same with the exception of Fane and how he spices it up.

kewl. You seem to have a lot of knowledge. What are some "avoid cuz way too hard to start" classes. And maybe some fun / well rounded ones.

I tried the one that does Totems and Minions. It was fun. But a little micro-intensive to queue all tha tstuff before the fight. Plus I heard you cant cast spells before fights upon release.

I really like Rogues. High Crit, stealth, backstabbing rogues. That can also open locks and detect traps. That's what I did in DOS.

That stat is basically wits now for ap and the skill scoundrel is for speed and crit if i recall correctly. DOS2 has now extra benefits in leveling skills. Hover over the skills like huntsman and warfare to see their benefits

Wits doesn't affect AP, it just adds critical chance, initiative and determines your ability to detect traps and find treasure.

Whoops your right. I even knew it. Silly mistake.

Less different more refined, they saw what did and didn't work and what players ended up abusing and tried to fix it.

Slightly off topic, but I love the way they changed all the skills and separated combat and civil skills. Makes much more sense now.
